Class is in Session: Ariel Smith and The Food Truck Scholar

Two words, nine letters. Food Trucks. In the last 10 years, food trucks have exploded onto the culinary scene, so much so that they have inspired countless TV shows such as the Food Network’s “The Great Food Truck Race”, “Food Truck Face Off”, and the Cooking Channel’s “Food Truck Nation”. Some of the best food I have ever had I’ve gotten from a food truck. Apparently I’m not alone in my obsession with them. Ariel Smith M.Ed., is a PhD student, the creator of “The Food Truck Scholar” and the host of the podcast with the same name. She has dedicated her entire post-graduate journey to the study to these marvelous moving culinary masterpieces, and their role in American culture, African American entrepreneurs’ experiences, and involvement in the mobile food industry.

Ariel decided to be a voice for so many food truck owners, and in 2018, she launched “The Food Truck Scholar” brand. In 2019, the podcast was born. It’s been the number one food-truck podcast of 2019 and 2020 (and between you and me, let’s just claim 2021 as well). She’s had everyone you could think of on the show, from Food Network contestants (looking at you, Chopped), to former bank executives and self-taught chefs. If you’re thinking about starting your own food truck, or just want some insight into the mobile food business, this is the show for you. Don’t believe me? Just ask the over 24,000 listeners worldwide. You can listen to the podcast on just about every platform that podcasts are available, but some links will be posted below to get you started. (Basically what I’m saying is that whether you have an iPhone or Android, there is no excuse not to listen!) So the next time you visit a food truck, queue up an episode and soak in the gems with your food. You won’t regret it.
