Getting married within a month of meeting would seem crazy to some people, but not to Tory and Teri. That’s exactly what they did. What some would assume to be successfully impossible, became a flourishing and successful love story for Tory and Teri. The first thing that I noticed about this couple was their intention to have a relationship with God, and then one another. These days love has been put on the backburner to materialism, selfishness, and lustful encounters, amongst other things. So I have to say, seeing a modern-day love story is a breath of fresh air. I am such a “lovey dovey” woman, but I love God first and foremost. I believe that NOTHING is impossible when you have God as the center-even something as seemingly impossible as getting married within a month and having success & longevity…if you don’t want to take my word for it, you can take Tory and Teri’s:
You married within a month of meeting, that’s absolutely amazing! Please share with us how this love came about and what signs were there to let you know she/he was the one?
“Tory and I met on social media. Although I had accepted his friend request six months prior, we didn’t actually connect right away. Once we did, it took off immediately, as we knew what we wanted in a mate, and that was an intentional relationship with God and one another. We both shared the same goals and values as it pertained to relationships.”
So love at first sight is very possible, what barriers did you all break down to be open and vulnerable with each other?
“I believe it was our own personal walls that we dismantled, to allow the other in while sharing pertinent details of our past and the desires of our heart. It was effortless, and no hesitancy. It flowed! We each provided a safe space for each other to bare our souls.”
So many are divorcing early and many are prolonging marriage while remaining in lengthy relationships. What do you see as the need in relationships and marriage today?
“Transparency! Marriages are falling apart because of a lack of communication and respect. Failure to communicate respectfully is the reason for the fall of the union.”
How can men and women improve their communication skills being that both tend to think differently, and that difference often leads to them giving up before they even get started?
“By creating a safe place for one another and exercising non-judgemental truth moments. These moments need to be led with prayer, and open minds. We encourage active listening and attacking the problem with solution-based camaraderie as opposed to, attacking one another. We encourage couples to always follow up with counseling throughout their relationship for healthy maintenance.”
How do you counsel those who have previously been married and fear opening up to someone new?
“We always focus on their bright-eyed positive attributes as a ‘Winning Team’. We then highlight their want to be together and the reason they chose one another. It is there that we begin to lay the groundwork for their ‘ideal union/marriage’. We meet one on one with the counselee, and triage areas of doubt, fear, heartbreak, and childhood traumas. We then begin to develop a clean canvas to envision and begin to create the life they want. It’s cheerleading, coaching, and mentorship that revives their spirit to wholeness. One must do their work first if they want to move onward & upward in harmony with one another.”
What led to the launch of your show, Love In Black, and what are some topics you focus on?
“We were approached by the General Manager of the station and the rest was history. The concept of ‘Love In Black’ is a financial metaphor for keeping your love ‘in the positive’, as it relates to your bank account. You want your love in ‘The BLACK’ positive, opposed to in the red which is negative, a deficit.”
I’m sure you both are relationship and marriage goals, what would you say has been the key to making the love last?
“FORGIVENESS!!!”
