Markevia Mincey: The Wife of Former NFL Player Jeremy Mincey Becomes a New Author

Michael J. Fox once said, “Family is not an important thing, it’s everything.”

Markevia Mincey understands that perfectly. She is a mother of three and the wife of former NFL player Jeremy Mincey who played for the Dallas Cowboys, Denver Broncos, and the Jacksonville Jaguars. Her mission has been to build on the strength of her family while creating and growing the family business. Understanding the power of pouring into your family, having a purpose, and making long-term plans, Mincey and her husband have set their intentions on leaving a legacy for their kids. 

While her husband has contributed to the legacy from his time in the NFL and now through his music production company, she acted on her dream of creating and writing a children’s book series called the Mincey Kidz Adventures. Her first newly released book, Mom’s Big News, delivers a message about change which she is certain will be an enjoyable read for the entire family, especially the kids. 

Being a woman who is serious about family involvement and togetherness, she made sure to include her kids in the writing, development, and design process from the beginning to the end. They are now co-authors of the book, which was published in December 2021. She wants her book series to be her contribution to the legacy for her kids.

Meet Markevia Mincey, wife, mother, entrepreneur, and new author as she talks about family, being an author, and why it’s important to leave a legacy for her kids.  

Family is so important. What lessons do you think you’ve learned growing up that has helped you in your family life now? 

Some lessons I’ve learned while growing up that has helped me with my own family is being always available for my husband and children. No matter how tired I am, I make sure I am there with a listening ear, open arms, and sitting in the crowd watching. I make sure they know we support them. 

How do you balance being a mother, wife, entrepreneur, and a new author? 

I balance all these roles with prayer and a supportive spouse. My husband understands things get done easier when we work as a team. 

Tell us the name of your book and how you came up with that name? Your kids are co-authors; in what ways did they help with the book? 

Mincey Kidz Adventures: Mom’s Big News. I came up with the title because it stems from when we decided to relocate from Florida to Georgia. The kids were very helpful during the writing process because the story is based off our life. They gave great feedback! 

How did writing this book impact you and what does it mean to you? 

This book impacts me and my family because it’s an event we experienced as a family. I had been saying for a while that I was ready to write a children’s book, and once I finally published the book, I felt a sense of accomplishment. I was able to show my children that once you put your mind to it, you can do it! 

You self-published your book. Why did you decide to go that route? In your opinion, what were some of the pros and cons of self-publishing? 

I choose to self-publish my book because of the creative control. I knew what I wanted. Some pros to self-publishing, as I mentioned previously is having creative control. That is very important when it comes to your artistry. A con would be the marketing and visibility. It’s a challenge getting your story heard to the masses, but it can be done.   

Being a mother and wife can be a hard job sometimes, what advice can you give to other mothers about working through it? 

Take a moment to yourself; you need it.

With small children, how do you and hubby get time alone? 

We hire a sitter. It could be my mother, his parents or our siblings, but we make sure we get a sitter.

As an entrepreneur, what is the name of your company and what do you do? 

Outside of the Mincey Kidz Adventures, my husband and I own a clothing line called Kumfee Kush. It’s an urban streetwear brand made for the whole family. 

You say you want to leave a legacy for your kids. Family legacies are something black families don’t often leave, why is it important for you to leave a legacy for your kids? 

It’s important for us to leave our legacy to our children because they are our future. They carry the torch. Leaving a legacy for our children will provide them with opportunities that we did not have at their age. 

Now that your husband is retired, how have the dynamics changed at home? What do the two of you do for fun? 

We spend more quality time together. We enjoy watching all kinds of movies to the point that we have started writing movies as well.

What’s next for you? What’s next for the family? 

My goal is to continue to expand the Mincey Kidz Adventures series. I have been continuously working on that, as well as our clothing line. My children have been working on their Mincey Kidz YouTube channel and playing basketball. My husband and I will continue to nourish whatever our children want to pursue.
