After last year, I am sure we could all use a little inspiration. LaShae Wallace has used her writing as a means to share the Gospel with other people. She has published four Christian inspirational books, and is also a middle school counselor. Prior to that, she served as a field instructor at Clemson University’s Youth Learning Institute mentoring girls who went through the Department of Justice’s juvenile system. LaShae sat down with us to discuss her faith, what she wants readers to get from her books, and advice for aspiring writers.
How has your faith inspired the books that you write?
My faith in Jesus Christ has been my biggest inspiration to write and encourage others by sharing the Gospel. My prayer has always been for people to see Jesus through me and for Him to use me in a mighty way for His Glory. I grew up in the church and always had a zeal and heart for God. I accepted Jesus as my Lord and Savior at age 14. I turn 30 in November, and it has been an amazing journey walking and talking to Jesus as He leads and guides me through life. At the age of 21, my first book was published titled “Look at God”. He never ceases to amaze me and works in mysterious ways. In 2016, my maternal Grandmother passed away and I dedicated my second book to her titled “Season of Purpose” . She was my “why” and the purpose behind my gift. I know it was my Mother and Grandmother’s prayers that kept me. In 2017, my third book was published titled “It Started with a Promise” I stood on the Word of God and His promises that never fail. During a global pandemic my 4th book was published titled “Worship in the Wilderness” the title speaks volumes. All that I am and all that I have is by the Grace of God.
“But without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him.” -Hebrews 11:6
If there was one message that you would want readers to get from your work, what would it be?
One message that I would want readers to get from my work is that “Broken things can become blessed things if you let God do the mending” -unknown author. No matter how difficult life may be, continue to praise your way through. Never give up and know you are enough because His Grace is sufficient.
What advice would you have for someone who would like to write a book, but isn’t sure where to start?
The bible says “Write it down and make it plain” I encourage you to write in journals and listen to the voice of the Lord amid the noise of the world. Also, a lot of people have asked me how I found time to write. My response was I made time…I have 4 published books before 30 and it’s just the beginning. God is always speaking we must “Be still and know” your gift will make room for you. Seek God in all you do and always remember somebody is depending on you to do what God called you to do. Your story matters. You are a word created by God and for God. Just write…
Do you have a favorite book of yours that you reread to center yourself on days that you may struggle?
My latest book “Worship in the Wilderness’ ‘ is my favorite book because that’s exactly what I did during the Covid-19 pandemic and it’s dedicated to those gracefully broken, overlooked, or found themselves in a dry season. “But Jesus often withdrew himself into the wilderness and prayed” ~ Luke 5:16 I encourage readers through quotes, scriptures, and personal prayers. God has truly shown me favor in a famine and this book is the epitome of walking by faith. By faith, I let go of the life I pictured so God could give me the life He planned. He’s blessed me with my husband Brion & we met while both going through a season of being in the wilderness.
Have you ever had doubts about becoming an author? If so, how did you get through it?
Yes, I thought I was too young to become an author. There weren’t many young people around me who had published books. I believe elders who spoke in my life and saw something in me that I didn’t help pull and push me in my destiny. Being an author is one of my greatest accomplishments and my Pastor Travis Greene prophesied over my life and said I had 13 books in me. I am an overcomer, and I will forever stand on the Word of God and remember my favorite bible verse Romans 12:21 “Do not be overcome by evil but overcome evil with good. Writing, encouraging others, sharing the Gospel, and telling my testimony will always be the reason I do what I do. To Jesus be the Glory!
