There is just so much about this film that we love!
DON’T WASTE YOUR PRETTY follows a group of tightly knit friends as they sort out their turbulent life issues and love lives – always turning to one another to figure out their next move when jobs, romance or family interactions prove more complicated than they had ever anticipated. The film is based on the eponymous novel penned by award-winning author and media personality Demetria L. Lucas. The cast of DON’T WASTE YOUR PRETTY includes Keri Hilson (“Think Like A Man,” “Almost Christmas”), Redaric Williams (“The Yard,” “The Young And The Restless”), Deborah Joy Winans(“Greenleaf”), Jasmine Burke (“Saints & Sinners”), Kaye Singleton (“American Soul”) and Rainey Branch (“Being Mary Jane,” “Grey’s Anatomy”).
You will love this film simply because you can find yourself in this movie, whether you are the busy career driven woman hoping to have love some how magically knock on your door, or maybe you are newly divorced afraid to take a chance on love because you are still trying to heal. Don’t worry men, because there is even the single bachelor who wants real love as well but he keeps running into the wrong women. This movie tells many different stories that we all have found ourselves in at some point.
I personally relate to the life of Mykah (Keri Hilson) because she is focused on her career and like most business driven women, we just often get so caught up in our work that we forget to go out and meet potential dating partners. I love the fact that she has a fear of online dating because well when you have watched Catfish then you just avoid the potential of being let down by a guy who is nothing like his profile. In a recent press interview, Keri stated she didn’t feel women should do online dating because she has heard of to many stories where women were raped on those dates. I must admit online dating is very scary, and I’m still learning how to approach it, if ever. But as Keri later added, “Put yourself in a position to be found.” At least by the right person because for the career driven woman, she probably goes to the grocery store, gas station and back home. I mean let’s shout out Amazon prime for my online shopping addiction. Ladies are we really putting ourselves in a position to be found? Probably not, because with Covid, its now even harder now!
Now Mykah (Keri Hilson), has a twin brother Michael by “6 minutes” as mentioned in the film for laughs, played by Redaric Williams, who is the complete opposite of his sister. He is a single bachelor, that is a successful lawyer out living his life when it comes to the ladies. The common ground is like his twin sister, he too wants to find love.
FEMI had the opportunity to attend a recent press conference and Redaric stated during the discussion, “Don’t be afraid to be single while doing the self-work”, “let the guys who want to be in your life, be in it, and for the other ones, let them do the work. Don’t go out and try to find someone, let it come and happen naturally.” It felt good to hear such a handsome man such as himself spread some positive advice on dating! We all have been guilty of rushing things and trying to force love.
I love that in this film, his character continues to keep it moving until he meets that woman who it just comes natural with. No worries we won’t spoil you with who that lovely lady ends up being! However we will say that when it comes to love, you spend countless dates searching and it’s always the one you least expect who is perfect for you. Like they have literally always been right there.
Then there is Jeanne (Deborah Joy Winans) who is a recent divorcee, and although you may or may not have ever experienced being divorced, you can relate to the feeling of being disappointed when love doesn’t happen the way you thought it would. We all know those relationships where we felt like John Legend singing, “I gave you all of me”, and in the end you were left feeling played and empty no matter how good of a person you felt you were being.
So are you still wondering why you should watch this film?
Then wonder no more, because I just gave you a few of the goodies and then of course here is the trailer to watch! Be sure to catch this amazing film, Don’t Waste Your Pretty based off the novel by Demetria L. Lucas on TV One on my birthday let’s add, February 28th!
