From Firefighting to Founding Empires: Hanz Fequiere’s Journey of Legacy, Loss, and Leadership

Growing up between New York and the vibrant communities of Liberty City and Overtown in Miami, Hanz Fequiere experienced a childhood shaped by contrast and balance. The youngest of four, born to Haitian immigrant parents, he often says he lived with “the best of both worlds.” His father, rooted in the practical and disciplined rhythms of Haiti, offered a steady example of structure and responsibility. His mother, a piano-playing dreamer and fearless entrepreneur, taught him to chase visions bigger than his surroundings. That dynamic duality—discipline and imagination—became the compass for Hanz’s life.

In the late 2000s, after working as a mortgage broker, Hanz witnessed the market crash firsthand. With foresight and family on his mind, he moved to Atlanta in 2007, just weeks before being accepted into Henry County’s firefighter academy. There, while raising his children and navigating a divorce, Hanz dedicated nine years of service to the community—battling fires, responding to tragedies, and witnessing life and death in its most raw form.

The job left scars: the house fire that took a life, the helicopter crash with no survivors, and the devastating night a close friend—an off-duty police officer—was fatally struck by a drunk driver. Despite their efforts, Hanz and his team couldn’t save him. Minutes after delivering the grim news at the hospital, they found themselves in the waiting room surrounded by the officer’s family. “We cried with them,” Hanz recalls. “Then we went back to work. That’s the job. That’s the weight.”

Burnout eventually set in. In 2016, he stepped away from the firehouse and into a new chapter, joining a private EMS company as a marketer. It didn’t take long before he found his stride—landing 20 new clients in just three months and realizing his potential as a business owner. By 2017, with a single ambulance and a small team, he launched his own non-emergency EMS company. By the end of year one, he had crossed the million-dollar mark.

But life didn’t slow down. In 2018, both parents faced serious health challenges—his father suffered kidney failure, his mother endured multiple strokes and later passed from cancer. Months after her passing, his second marriage ended in divorce. Through the grief and heartbreak, Hanz poured himself into work, determined to build an empire that would support others and leave a legacy for his children.
