Upbeat tempo, emotional ballads, and a positive message are the key ingredients to Hello Sunday’s new album “Heiress to the Throne.” Hello Sunday is committed to uplifting youth with messages of body positivity and equality. They gave us a look at the passion behind the music.
You recently had the opportunity to be on the Not Too Late Show with a childhood sensation, Elmo! Explain the feeling in that moment?
Myla: Having the AMAZING opportunity to be on the Not Too Late Show with Elmo was absolutely amazing!!! I grew up watching Elmo, so to actually go to Sesame Street, and meet Elmo and the other characters on Sesame Street were the experience of a lifetime!
Chelsea: Being on The Not Too late Show with Elmo, was a dream come true for me. I used to watch Elmo on Sesame Street when I was a child and to say I had the opportunity to share the stage with Elmo is truly amazing.
You have a single titled, Curves, tell us more about your reason behind supporting body positivity.
Myla: Curves is one of my favorite songs on our Heiress to the Throne album because it promotes body positivity. Promoting Body positivity is important to me because people need motivation and reassurance that they are enough, and they should love the skin they are in. The media these days can run, which really make us think that we aren’t good enough and if we don’t look a certain way then we should be ashamed. Curves let people know that you don’t have to look a certain way or be a certain size to be accepted, and to embrace ourselves, flaws and all.
Chelsea: We named our single “Curves” to help spread body positivity to the world. I think there is a lack of young women embracing their natural curves. Society has set a beauty standard that one body type makes you beautiful. So we want people to know that it’s okay to be happy with your natural size and shape.
Your new album, “Heiress to the Throne” is now out, what is the message you wish for listeners to gain from the album and what song on the album did you enjoy making the most?
Myla: The message I want people to get from Heiress to the Throne, is to love themselves and not let others make you doubt who you are. The song I really enjoyed making the most, is Little Voices because it is such a positive song and really speaks to mental health and just making sure we take care of ourselves and love ourselves.
Chelsea: We want our listeners to know that we have evolved since the last time people saw us. We have matured and have grown as young women and as artists. One of the songs I enjoyed making the most, is “Curves” because we had multiple opinions on the track and we were able to work with Kaay Money.
The message in your single, Equal, is so powerful, how have you all dealt mentally with the horrific events in the news in recent years in the black community?
Myla: The events that have transpired, have definitely been eye-opening and really put a spotlight on things that our community is going through. I think what “Equal” does is really highlight that we don’t want any special treatment, we simply want to be treated equally and have the same opportunities as others.
Chelsea: With everything going on in the world, there have been times where I’ve wondered if I and my loved ones would make it home safely. So to stay positive and not think negative thoughts, I’ve just been reconnecting with my friends and family and cherish those moments, because life is so short and tomorrow is not promised.
“Heiress” has a strong definition, how does this word speak to your heart & what can we expect from you in the upcoming months?
Myla: “Heiress”, definitely is a strong word and we felt it was warranted for the title of our album, simply because we both feel as we were blessed with our talent to promote love and light. We work really hard, and we are coming for everything that is promised to us, we are coming for our throne and we are having so much fun doing so! In the upcoming months, you can definitely expect to see more from Hello Sunday! We have some awesome projects we are working on and can’t wait for you all to see them! We are also still in the studio, working and performing! So, be on the lookout, because Hello Sunday is just getting started!
Chelsea: When I hear the word “Heiress”, I think of royalty…a girl with class, poise, and wealth. What you can expect from us is collaborating with other artists, upcoming music, and us being featured in an upcoming musical called “ We Are The Dream” and more.
