“Healing Begins where the wound was first made” –Alice Walker (The Way Forward Is with a Broken Heart)
The millennial generation, also known as “Generation Y” is born between 1981 and 1996. Anyone within the current ages of (24-39) in 2020 was born into the millennial generation. The media has painted the picture of Generation Y as being lazy, narcissistic, and sensitive. This generation is much more than the emotions we wear on our sleeves and the family or childhood trauma we grew from. We’re the healers, and answers to our ancestor’s prayers.
Generation Y is full of creative’s, business owners, entrepreneurs, and workaholics. The issue we have with the talent we’re presented with is Balance. How do we balance healthy relationships within ourselves and others? How do we juggle having a family and a career? And is it actually possible to find genuine love that doesn’t involve suffering first? It’s not that we’re too sensitive; we actually value our connections, while craving sensual affection.
How do we balance what we’ve been taught verses what we now know, while still growing in a world with a new set of morals and rules? We heal; we talk, and surrender to our free will.
Cherish your dark just as much as your light. Create healthy boundaries for balanced relationships. It’s possibly to be a loving mother and have a demanding career. It’s possible to love without the burden of self sacrifice. The examples we seen growing up weren’t always positive but this generation has the power to turn a negative into a positive simply by doing it their own way.
We’re not afraid to seek guidance, question democracy, or afraid to challenge “the norm” if something doesn’t sit right. We’re the pioneers to a new world where we’re beginning to unravel the systematic issues within our active government. We demanded change, and this type of transition requires healing and balance.
