FEMI Magazine had the opportunity to talk with Sheldon and Tammi Moore about their journey of love and business. Sheldon and Tammi Moore are a dynamic duo who, in less than three years, have become a dominant force in a specialty niche in the billion-dollar trucking industry. They exemplify success in the cargo/sprinter van and box trucking industry offering a full slate of services including freight delivery, business coaching, training, and dispatching.
With God-given vision, razor-sharp focus, and industry insight, they have founded not only one trucking company but several. Yael Transportation, LLC, is their trucking business. A Truckerpreneur is a coaching and training business teaching clients how to start a trucking company. Sheldon, best known as Coach Sheldon, was a top car salesman for 20 years before he began his trucking career. After driving 18-wheelers for other companies, his entrepreneurial spirit came calling and he founded Yael Transportation. Tammi, a successful healthcare executive with big pharmaceutical companies, never considered the transportation field until she received a prophecy from her minister that she would work in transport.
With help from Sheldon, Tammi founded WJMR Transportation (named for her children). She now serves as CFO of Yael managing the finances, administration, marketing, and staff. Together they have gained a reputation for industry excellence and a nationwide following that has helped their business explode.
Despite their success, both share a higher calling – in ministry. It is their mutual love of God that brought them together and serves as the foundation for their successful marriage. They are thankful to God for enlarging their territory and they are committed to giving back through their ministry and by helping others grow in the trucking industry. Since the pandemic, their coaching and counsel has resulted in launching more than 500 truckerpreneur businesses.
How do you define love?
Tammi: This is a very great question, to me love is an action word. I think the truest definition of Love is being able to accept someone for who they are and loving them unconditionally. One of the greatest key learnings of my three-year marriage with Sheldon is the fact that God created him uniquely to be exactly who he needs to be on this planet and vice-versa for me. For me, love is having this unconditional, unwavering connection with someone where you meet them exactly where they are in life – and love them unconditionally.
Sheldon: A woman cannot change a man but a man will change for the right woman and that’s when you know that you have your soulmate when you’re willing to be the best version of you for her.
What do you feel helps to make marriage work as entrepreneurs?
Tammi: So, what I know for sure working closely with my husband as an entrepreneur is that we both have unique skills he’s stronger at being organized and most definitely being punctual. I’m the marketing and creative one. The key to us working successfully together is being able to communicate effectively as early on, it was a major struggle for both of us. We’re both so used to operating the way we kind of show up in this world that some of it spills over into our business so being able to have one-on-one conversations together to talk about the business come to an agreement and then execute that has been a major game-changer for the both of us
Sheldon: To be successful as a husband and wife team as entrepreneurs once you understand your roles and not allow myself to intervene in her role and she not intervene in my role and learning how to separate business and personal time together.
