Picture a handsome man, tailored suit, shoes looking good, and ready to go out for the day, evening, or night. I mean, who does not appreciate a good-looking man in a fitted suit that appropriates his culture, and he looks good while doing it. Men, how is your Fashion for this season? Are you prepared for it? So, let us get into it!

When you think of Nigeria’s men fashion, what is the first thing that comes to mind? Now, I probably thought the same thing, until I came across the owner of Tobeque Couture. Frank Onyeka, CEO of Tobeque Couture, is the #1 fashion designer in Nigeria that provides men and women with statement pieces that meet all clothing needs from every day, traditional, and party wear. From high-quality fabric to detailed craftsmanship designed around culture, uniqueness, comfortability, and love, Frank was destined to dominate the fashion industry and share his passion worldwide. Therefore, it is only right that FEMI Magazine gets some Fall insights from the designer and learn from the best.

It’s getting cold outside; how has your business been preparing for the fall/winter?

Just like every other business, the pandemic threw a spanner in the works. Still, we’ve been preparing as best as we can. We’ve adjusted our standards to suit our customer’s pockets and styles, especially for the winter, and we’re sure that we’ll be a hit.

What new looks have you been preparing for the menswear?

We just dropped our new collection – the TOBEQUE COLLECTION. The idea was to revamp Tobeque after a very slow 2020 due to the pandemic. The TOBEQUE COLLECTION pieces are made for men who want to step up their style going into 2021.

Have you brought back anything that was out of style and made it trendy again?

Yes. Here in Nigeria, velvet outfits have gone out of style. The weather has a part to play in it, but that doesn’t mean we can’t do unique pieces with velvet. That’s why we made it a staple in our latest collection – the TOBEQUE COLLECTION. And so far, it’s been received very well.

Where does your creativity draw from when creating new designs?

We are influenced by our environment, nature, and the everyday fashion sense of strong Nigerian men from all walks of life.

What colors are popping this Fall that we need to know about, and what colors should we avoid, if any?

Black, mauve, dark green (Brunswick and Myrtle), sky, and navy blue are the colours that are popping this Fall. Yellow and purple should be kept to a minimum in men’s wear this period.

What is the style for men in Nigeria? How does it compare and differ to men in the US? What are your influences?

Nigerians are fashionable people. The different classes of people have different senses of Fashion and still pull it off so well. Our style as Nigerians revolves around comfortability, culture, and uniqueness. Comparing it to the US men’s style, which is also heavy on culture (for the black people) and comfortability, shows that Fashion is a force that can be tapped into from anywhere.

In contrast, however, the uniqueness is particular to the different cultures of both nations. At Tobeque, we apply this uniqueness to our pieces, which are influenced by our environment, nature, and the everyday fashion sense of strong Nigerian men from all walks of life.

Share some tips to help men prepare for this fall/winter and be more fashionable.
