I feel like fashion has truly evolved into a high art. Yes, there are fast fashion brands, but more now than ever, consumers want unique, creative, and innovative fashion. Thus, we have an uptick in DIY fashion projects and hacks. I’m not much of a trendy fashion designer. I make pieces I want to see in the world, and I hope they call to the right people to wear them. So many times customers walk into my store and find a random piece made. They will say, ” This is exactly what I was looking for, bit didn’t know how to describe it”. That’s all I ever wanted.
When would you say you first began designing, and what made you know this was the future choice for you?
I first began designing in 2013, making big custom accessories. But my first photoshoot that used my pieces was when I knew I wanted to be a fashion designer full-time. The frantic pace of the shoot and making pieces on the spot made me fall in love with fashion.
It’s summer. What are some of the fashion trends for women and men?
Some summer fashion trends for women are light, flowy dusters over shorts and tanks. Sophisticated and elevated summer wear is on the rise. For men, I see more matching short sets for those summer pool meetups and day parties.
What are some of the ups and downs of the fashion world for those in pursuit?

My next event will be the release of my new book, The Ultimate Fashion Sketch and Pattern Card Workbook! I will be having a book signing on July 7, 2024, at my showroom, The Kut Studios La 222 E 11th Street LA, CA 90015 from 11a-3p.
What was it like creating for such an iconic figure as Erykah Badu?
I loved making designs for Erykah Badu. She knows exactly what she wants but gives you the freedom to add your design aesthetic. She is great about styling the custom pieces I made for her, on herself in a way most would not.
How can one bring a touch of fashion to an everyday look?
I, myself dress pretty simple when out on the town. I love a basic base, and then I always add one unique piece. Whether it is a funky jacket or purse. Just by adding a unique accessory to a basic base, you can take your look up a notch.
