When you hear the term, “wearing many hats” let’s think of Tahirah Bowrey who is a serial entrepreneur! Bowrey not only founded Creative Impulse Dance Company but is also the Co-Owner and Co-Founder of T2 Boutique, T2 Investments, and Private Party Igloo.
Tahirah formed Creative Impulse Dance Company in 2004 while attending Bowie State and registered it as a business in 2008. After graduating, she saw a need to open up her own dance studio. The studio offers children’s classes with a competitive dance team of students ranging from ages 6-16.
Proving she is not afraid to leap into other business avenues, one would not even be surprised to know that Tahirah’s Real Estate Company (T2 Investments) is making some moves all by itself by successfully flipping homes all throughout Baltimore City and even tapping into the lucrative business of owning Airbnbs and housing traveling nurses.
From dance to Real Estate, Tahirah even has fashion covered with T2 Boutique. The brand specializes in exclusive pieces, personal styling, shopping parties, on-the-go vending events, and hosting pop-up shops.
Do you believe in work-life balance? If so, how do you maintain it?
Work-life balance is extremely important to me. I’m a firm believer in ‘work hard, play harder’. Knowing how to be productive, but maintaining the balance between family time, self-care and a social life is essential. I’m okay with telling someone no if it means I won’t miss important family time. I start filling my calendar with work and family, and any other free days I have, get filled with fun and me time.
Do you consider yourself a serial entrepreneur?
Absolutely. All successful entrepreneurs have multiple streams of income. I’m at a phase where I’m planting my seeds. I look forward to the moment when I’m able to watch them grow.
What is your professional and educational background?
I have a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology from Bowie State University and taught reading and dance in the public school system. Not recognizing my strength as an entrepreneur early on, prevented me from taking formal education in business. All of my business education derives from passion and experience.
Please tell us about your nonprofit.
Creative Impulse’s purpose is to provide fitness and dance education and training through various classes for young girls and boys. The dance company’s goal is to offer free training for qualified dancers, to perform and compete at competitions, in order to receive exposure for dance scholarships and other opportunities. Our programs include dance intensives, which allow our dancers to bond and build relationships with people they can trust, field trips to professional dance performances to promote culture, and fundraising to support the arts and other nonprofit organizations. At times, we may provide internships or volunteer opportunities in said activities and programs in order to promote and encourage art education and the importance of physical health.
