[WASHINGTON, DC] March 6, 2024 — Children’s book author Derrick Jakolby Washington just released a beautiful ode to black women just in time for Women’s History Month. In a poem entitled, “Beautiful Black Woman”, Washington created a heartfelt video tributing black women of all kind — both famous and not.
When asked about the poem and his inspiration behind creating it, Washington says, “In celebrating Women’s History month, my poem is a heartfelt tribute to the indomitable spirit of Black Women. Their unwavering contributions and sacrifices have shaped the essence of humanity, yet they frequently stand in the shadows of recognition…” He continues, “To Black Women everywhere, know that your strength, your grace, and your resilience are seen, valued, and cherished, especially by me, a Black Man. The thought of a world without your presence, your influence, is unimaginable. Your light is essential.”
