Bel-Air has announced some new cast members for season 2 on Peacock. Among those new cast members is Jazlyn Martin who plays “Jackie”. Her South LA swagger tests Will’s Philly swagger when they meet on the court during a basketball tournament.
We caught up with Jazlyn Martin to discuss how she landed her role on Bel-Air and why bringing her authentic self to the big screen was so important.
Can you tell our readers who Jazlyn Martin is?
I am a passionate storyteller, who has a heart for activism and psychology. Adventure and nature invigorate me to reflect the goodness I see. Art has always been an embedded foundation for me, and so I deeply seek out to illuminate it in everything.
Can you talk about your acting journey and how you landed your role as Jackie in season 2 of Bel Air?
My journey began with being able to play pretend, and how fun it is to step into someone else’s shoes and what a privilege that is. I tried very hard not to get discouraged, and luckily, I have this burning drive in me that was my fuel. Surprisingly, this was my first audition with my agent and he called me saying ‘I think this part would be perfect for you, so I sent in my self-tape, and then they contacted him wanting to do a chemistry read with me, and a few days after that they called my agent to let him know that I was going to be Jackie.
