Co-founder Denise Myhand Shares About the “So Amazing! Black Culture Word Search Book” Series

Meet a brand amplifying, Black culture, achievements and music in a fun and creative way.

The “So Amazing! Black Culture Word Search Book” series will work to amplify the coolness, creativity and sense of humor that makes Black culture so special.

Co-founder Denise Myhand is a proud two time graduate of Alabama A&M University, having earned her Bachelor’s degree and MBA at the HBCU. So Amazing! Black Culture has 6 different word search books but their “That’s My Jam” where is search, specifically highlights African-American music in a fun way.

We had the pleasure to speak with Denise Myhand to learn more about the book series and more!

What was the inspiration behind your brand?

We saw a need to create relevant and relatable black centric content in the word game space.

June is Black Music month. Tell us about “That’s My Jam” and how it honors the contributions of Black people in music.

We all know Black musicians have played a key role in shaping the world of music as we know it. From Blues, Jazz and Gospel to Soul, R&B, Rock and Country, Black musicians laid the foundation for many of the sounds that make us tap our toes, snap our fingers and bob our heads to the beat. Great music is like a soundtrack to life. It can take you back to a moment in time or help you imagine what could be in the future. If you are a music fan, this word search book will be your perfect little getaway to musical bliss. “That’s My Jam!” is our tribute to Black Music.

Name two artists (past or present)  who inspire you through music.

Denise – Erykah Badu.  For me the artist who inspires me through music is Erykah Badu. She is such a creative and authentic force.  Her music has always stood out to me. It is always distinctive, thought provoking and soulful.

Jay – Musiq Soulchild – Musiq Soulchild writes music from the perspective of the hopeless romantic. During my college years and even after college I could relate to many of his songs and saw myself in his music.

We celebrate Black Love. How did you two meet?

Although we attended the same HBCU at the same time with tons of mutual friends we did not meet until after college. Denise and a mutual friend were hanging out and the mutual friend invited Jay to join. Shortly after that we became friends. It wasn’t until a few years later that we started dating and the rest is history.

What’s it like to work side by side in your business?

Working together is pretty special. We have the ability to lean on each other’s strengths and have access to a different perspective. There are times when both want to be right or have our way but that is when we rely on our communication skills to navigate the moment and figure out what is best to move the business forward. Ultimately our marriage is our priority and if we had to choose between our marriage and our business we will always choose our marriage.

What’s next for So Amazing! Black Culture?

We have big things planned for So Amazing! Black Culture.  Recently we have started creating digital art for home and business spaces.  We will be offering photo and canvas prints with Black inspired imagery to continue our mission of celebrating the coolness, creativity, heart, soul and achievements of Black Culture.

We will also jump in the fight to improve the literacy gap that was heightened during the pandemic. We will be releasing a new series of word search books aimed at strengthening spelling and vocabulary skills for elementary school children. We believe the extra attention paid in these areas are crucial to fostering literacy in our communities.

Finally, this fall we will be releasing Volume II of the HBCU Edition of the So Amazing! Black Culture Word Search Series. With Volume II we will conclude our highlight of each HBCU with a word search puzzle. The HBCU editions will help promote awareness of the power and beauty of Historically Black Colleges and Universities.
