Why is it hard for Black Professional Singles to Find Love?

Black people are successful in many areas of their lives ranging from academics, businesses, lifestyle, and more. However, many Black single professionals find their love life lacking because they are “Too busy,” “Chooses career over relationships,” or can be “too intimidating.” One woman says single Black professionals do deserve Love and so much more. FEMI Magazine interviews the entrepreneur Kimberly McGowan, who has created the ONLY Black Professionals Singles Agency in Milwaukee, dedicated to turning monogamy relationships into marriages.

You are the only Black Matchmaking Agency in your state. When was the moment you saw a need to help single Black professionals with their love life?

Do you feel it’s possible to find Love with today’s dating pool, where marriages seem to be ending rapidly in divorce after a year? I first discovered the need for this service when I was in corporate America and talking with colleagues about their personal life and the common theme was that there are no good single men and women out there. The myth was that they were all taken. I realized that wasn’t true and decided to open a business that could potentially close that gap. I like to think it’s possible to find Love in today’s dating pool because of all available options. The one thing that people don’t utilize as such is the resources close to them. These are the people who know you best and know what you are attracted to; allow them to play matchmakers. The options are limitless.

On your website, it mentions that not everyone is a fit for the company’s services. Who are the ideal clients for your agency?

Also, what is the success rate in your company? Our ideal clients are busy professionals who understand that this is an investment they are making in themselves and not a sprint. Our success rate is about 75%, we’re not striving for 100, because in this business, that is not realistic.

There is an extensive process for someone wanting to find Love through your agency; describe the importance of this?

Our number one priority is the integrity of our company. Our clients need to know that we take their love life seriously, and we need them to do the same. The process will eliminate those individuals that are not serious about finding Love. More importantly, the process will eliminate those who are unwilling to invest and see it through.

How are you able to relate to your clients? Is there a love story that you can share with us?

I can relate to my clients because I know what it’s like to be matched or meeting someone on a blind date. The reason I can relate is that it’s my favorite love story of my husband and me. We met through a phone dateline back in the ’90s, and I remember hearing him describe himself, and I thought this guy is the cat’s meow lol; we met at my place of employment at the time; he met me for lunch. I remember saying to myself, oh no, this is not the guy for me because he had on work clothes. I couldn’t appreciate a hard-working man at the time. We talked a few times afterward, but nothing ignited. A year later, it’s funny how God works, I was attempting to call someone else I was casually dating, and I could not remember their phone number. I could only remember my husband’s number. So, I left a voice message, he called back, and we made plans to hang out, and the rest, as they say, is history.
