Digital Cover Story: WNBA Superstar Te’a Cooper Launches New Hair Company, Hollywood Luxury Hair!

Te’a Cooper is not only a professional athlete in the WNBA, but she is also a brand influencer for the Jordan brand and much more. Outside of the uniform and off the court, she is very much known for being a Boss, a beauty icon, being extremely fashionable, and most importantly, keeping her hair on point!

Back in November of 2022, she launched her own hair brand, Hollywood Luxury Hair, with a vision in mind to make sure that women feel not only beautiful but empowered with the confidence to walk into any room and own it! Now being a beauty herself on the basketball court in an industry that tends to focus more on male athletes, Te’a knows exactly what it takes to step out and own the room, so it makes sense that her brand would be a positive representation of that mindset as well!

FEMI Magazine was not able to step on the basketball court and attempt to hoop with Te’a, we’re saving that for another day, but we were able to do something safer that didn’t involve getting embarrassed on the court by a professional athlete! So we had a wonderful chat to learn more about her new hair brand, Hollywood Luxury Hair!

FEMI Magazine: Tell us about your background and journey in creating Hollywood Luxury Hair.

Since middle school, I had a dream to create a hair company, and was never able to make it a reality because of my schedule. I also didn’t know how to start a business. With the help of my marketing team, we were able to come up with a plan of action and successfully launch HLH in 2 months. I currently sell bundles, bonnets, and head massagers, and am excited to continue building the brand as we grow with our customers.  

Why did you decide to launch Hollywood Luxury Hair?

I’ve always wanted to have my own hair company, even before becoming a basketball player, so this was something I knew would become a reality. It was just a matter of time. I wanted to create a space where women and girls could not only buy hair but enjoy their experience, and we can help to bring the best out in them each and every time. 

What do you feel was missing in the hair and beauty community?

Anyone can sell hair, but I think making the customer experience personable and relatable is what sets us apart. We want people to feel like they are buying hair from someone they know and trust while knowing they will get a great product out of the experience. 

What are three tips for aspiring entrepreneurs who want to launch successful businesses in the beauty industry?

Do your research – A lot of things look good online or seem like a good choice at the time, but before diving into anything, do your research on people, products, and things you need to make your business successful. It will save you a lot of time and headaches. 

Plan ahead – Make sure you have a plan, don’t just jump in head first without having your budget in check, know who your target audience is, how much product you need to have, when is the best time to market your product, etc. Knowing basic things like this makes a big difference to your success. 

Don’t quit – I know it’s cliche but it’s so easy to come across one difficult moment and want to stop and try something else. But make sure you stay on the journey you begin and you might surprise yourself at just how successful you can be! 

I’m sure as a professional basketball player, you’re used to working hard, with extreme amounts of practice, commitment, and dedication. Are there any qualities that you utilized in your business from sports?

Never give up, prepare properly, vet what you’re up against (know your competitors in the business), get up and do something each day, even if it’s something small, and always work towards your overall dream by completing one task and goal for the day. 

How does Hollywood Luxury Hair plan to accomplish its vision to make all women feel beautiful and empowered, giving them the confidence to walk into any room?

Not only do we have great products, but we have great customer service and pride ourselves on making each customer feel comfortable and confident in knowing they are receiving the best quality hair for any event or an everyday look that they are going for. Where do you see Hollywood Luxury Hair in the next five years?

I see HLH being a global brand with the store evolving to have more styles and types of hair, including products, accessories, and more. We want to expand beyond bundles and become a one-stop shop for women around the world. Brick-and-mortar stores around America would also be a dream come true.
