Podcast are like TV talk shows on the go. Digital audio downloads for users to listen at their connivance. Girl Guess What Podcast ran by Ashanti and Jasmine Olivia is their reminiscent of a girl’s night in. They talk about current events, TV, celebrity gossip, pop culture, and the list goes on. Ashanti, founder of Girl Guess What reached out on social media for an extra member. “I saw her post on Twitter and responded”. Jasmine continued, “We met up and the connection was instant. We’ve been creating content together since 2018.”
“Our highlights topics range from mental health to men and relationships to sex and beyond. It’s really like hanging out with your girlfriends, drinking wine and talking about whatever comes up. It’s a lot of laughs and we learn a lot. We’ve even started doing live shows quarterly, where guests can come and interact with us while we record.” Girl Guess What Podcast.
Ashanti, 29, is a graduate of the University of Alabama, a native of Birmingham, Alabama and mother of one. Jasmine, 30, is a graduate of Alabama State University, a native of Selma, Alabama and dog mom of one. Together these two are unstoppable.
How hard or surprisingly easy was it to create your own?
The idea of starting a podcast is easy, but once you sit down and start to actually execute it, it’s a bit harder. Neither of us had previous experience with recording and producing audio. There’s also the time management portion. We both have full time jobs and households. Jasmine has an additional job and developing business. Ashanti is a full time mom. We have to be very intentional about setting times to record, as well as come up with content that we think our audience would be interested in. At the end of the day, the reward for us is that we have great chemistry, memories and a platform that is relatable, funny and inviting to not only our target audience but people in general.
What are some of your favorite topics to discuss? What really gets your listeners going?
Ashanti– “For me, it’s the sex and relationship topics. These are the episodes that usually have the highest listens and feedback.”
Jasmine- “I’m open to discussing anything really. I find a wide range of topics interesting, but I think my favorite part of it all would be the episode names. We’ve heard this from listeners too. They are interesting, usually hilarious and come from conversations on the show.”
It’s obvious that you guys have great chemistry. What do you think it is that makes you guys so great together when recording?
Ashanti- “We’ve forged a genuine bond from the beginning. We are so different, but it just works. Throw in wine or spirits and it’s a great time with us.”
Jasmine- “Yeah, we are ying and yang but it works so well. We also have a great deal in common. We both love to laugh, enjoy great conversation and have a massive respect for the podcasting world in general. That’s what makes us great. We are two young, black women in the Birmingham area, navigating being adults in all aspects of our lives. We’re relatable.”
What are some of your favorite podcasts? Any inspirations?
“We both love the Read, Jade & XD, & The Friend Zone. A few of Ashanti’s personal favs include Joe Budden & Whorible Decisions. Jasmine is a huge fan of Getting Grown, Lip Service w Angela Yee & Brilliant Idiots. We pull inspiration from all of them in one way or the next.”
What are the best ways to listen to your podcast or get in touch with you?
