Tyshon Freeman gives some insight into himself & life on the set of Black Mafia Family (BMF)

You may recognize him as Hoop, a drug dealer within Meech and Terry’s crew in 50 cent’s hit tv series Black Mafia Family (BMF). As a native of Paterson, New Jersey, Tyshon Freeman, started taking acting seriously around age 15. Since 2015, he has made appearances in productions like The Walking Dead, Sleepy Hollow, The Quad, The Gifted, as well as FBI: Most Wanted. Also credited as a producer and a director Tyshon has stepped into the limelight with a firm footing. So it’s only natural that when we at FEMI magazine got a chance to chat with him, we had a lot to ask. Here’s how it went.

First, who would you say is Tyshon Freeman?

Tyshon Freeman is just a man trying to leave his mark on the world through his art. Hoping one day to inspire others to be great and live life to the fullest.

What inspired you to be an actor?

Watching great actors like Forest Whitaker, Denzel Washington, and Robin Williams made me want to act. Movies always impacted and influenced my life deeply, I just knew acting was a part of my calling.

How did you get your start in the film and television industry?

I started by getting into acting classes, I started at the age of 15 and took a little bit of a break to focus on school etc. But fell back in the fold when I was in my early 20’s and got back into my acting classes. Was then discovered by my agency and the rest is history.

Having worked in productions like the Walking Dead and Gifted, how did that experience help you grow?

Being blessed to work with some of the best actors in the game sharing knowledge and just watching them work was invaluable. It has made me a better actor and truly understands the craft.

How would you say the process was leading up to landing the role of ‘Hoop’ on BMF?

Every journey has its ups and downs. It was a hard process but everything you want in life you have to work for. But once you get your win everything before that just melts away lol.

Tell us about your experience working on set (BMF) so far.

BMF was one of the best sets I’ve ever worked on! Everyone truly felt like family and it’s always great when you have cast and crew all sharing a common goal and working towards it. And I believe we will keep this going for seasons to come.

What else can we expect from you in the upcoming year or months?

I have 2 feature films in the works currently so just be on the lookout for that. And BMF Season 2 is coming soon.

Check out Tyshon Freeman in BMF and upcoming productions. We are excited to see what’s ahead for him.
