If you’re single and a hopeless romantic then it’s very possible that you have fallen in love with OWN’s hit reality series, Ready to Love! The show features successful black men and women in their 30s and 40s as they go through the steps of courtship in hope of finding the right one. Unlike most dating shows, what sets the show apart is the cast is mature and older.
During a recent press conference, FEMI’s Tanisha Davis asked the question of what they felt had kept the show coming back for multiple seasons, and Nephew Tommy responded, “It’s different than previous dating shows because in others they were in their 20s, now they are professionals in their 30s and 40s. We rarely see black love so to tune in every Friday looks great. We’re not your typical dating show.”
We have witnessed the show take over in Atlanta, Georgia, and Houston, Texas, now it’s coming to Washington D. C. aka Chocolate City!
Nephew Tommy mentioned during the press conference that Washington made their mark, and one of the male cast members, Donta stated that we could describe this season as, “Starbust Juicy, and Passionate with an interesting mix of personalities”.
In this season male cast member, Lamont said, “People knew what they wanted, and they were mature and prepared in comparison to other seasons.”
Of course, when it comes to the dating scene and hopes of meeting someone new, you have to first begin the work on yourself to prepare for new beginnings. We know that when you’re single, some are using that time to discover what went wrong in past relationships and seeking to heal from disappointments and hurt.
Aisha who is one of the female cast members on this season mentioned that she sought therapy and took a look at the role she played and why she stayed longer than she should have in her marriage. After the divorce, she mentioned that she also got therapy for her kids to help prepare them and help them understand. She added lastly that her time alone has been about self-discovery and learning how to make herself smile.
We know past experiences with dating can have a great effect on many, yet Phil who is one of the male cast members stated that in “knowing it’s a lot of women out there, you can’t just go off the past experiences. You have to know that you can meet someone new and connect”.
We’re really excited about seeing what DC has to offer in the dating market and as a reminder to the ladies which can also apply to men, cast member Walter says, “Beauty gets your foot in the door, but it doesn’t keep you there.”
Let’s see what this new tribe of singles has to show us by tuning in to Season 4 of Ready to Love on Friday, October 15 at 8/9c!
