DJ Xotic Mami was not the one to doubt herself and she did what many entrepreneurs have done today, which is to believe in the gift inside of you! Xotic Mami, many people are scared to leave their day jobs and jump into entrepreneurship. What drives your courage and passion?
In my world, courage and passion work collectively. Daily, I take the necessary steps toward success. By doing so I invest in ventures that make sense toward my goals of remaining an entrepreneur. Some people collect expensive vehicles, jewelry, and rare coins. I on the other hand collect leases and deeds; which will ensure entrepreneurialism and generational wealth.
What have been some of your most significant failures, and what did you learn from them?
There was a time I was running and operating 7 businesses at one time and I thought I could do this alone. That was a significant business failure on my part. I also hired inexperienced staff; which resulted in me sometimes having to micromanage and spend countless hours correcting service issues. I learned that in order to manage my businesses successfully, I needed an experienced team. With this being said, I restructured my focus and reorganized my businesses all of which are now set in motion for success.
Let’s talk about one of your business ventures, Xtreme 104 FM. As a 10-year Radio Personality, what made you decide to open your own radio station?
Since the age of 16, I’ve always wanted to not only host a radio show but also to own one. I learned early on the infrastructure of radio as it relates to media and the importance of it in the realm of entertainment. I’ve had the opportunity to work with various A, B list and independent artists and I understand that this platform is the conduit of their relevance and success. My goal is to help showcase this respective talent and assist their voices to be heard and spread throughout the masses.
With so much success in radio, what prompted you to venture your business efforts toward Television?
I’ve always had a great interest in acting and producing. I quickly learned how to film, edit and write, so I decided that I wanted to produce my own shows. With the industry of film and television being in such high demand and competition, Niccol Productions, in conjunction with Xtreme Vibe TV was born. This platform hosts over 3.8 million listeners; which is excellent for producers, music artists, clothing designers, and other talents to showcase their work in the space of film and television. I also offer product placement for those who are in need of helping to grow their business.
Congratulations on your spotlight at New York Fashion Week featuring your new Niccol Martin clothing line. This is a drastic change from the media. What made you decide to go into fashion?
I absolutely love fashion and everything involving design. Even home interior decor. My new lineup is tailored toward a diverse group and I absolutely love the direction where it’s going.
Let’s talk about your “give back” community engagement initiatives. How do you find time to serve your local communities?
As the Founder and Executive Director of The Community Hope Foundation, a 501c3 nonprofit organization, I am charged with serving the underserved. I connect with individuals who are often shunned due to various life-changing circumstances. Whether it be providing resources to those who suffer from mental health challenges or providing shelter to individuals who have been displaced due to homelessness. This population is often frowned upon. I was once there and I know first hand how it feels to be displaced. This work makes my heart smile. I strongly believe if you are in a position to help someone, you should do it. I’m a firm believer that you should never forget to inspire those that have lost the inspiration to inspire themselves.
