Candice Jones is Creating a Safe Haven for Black Women

Candice Jones is the CEO of a community driven platform known as, Everything She Is Co., that serves as a safe haven for Black Women’s mental health. During the pandemic she was able to channel her emotions and discovered that her feelings of inadequacy was a common experience for many women, especially black women. In life of course we try to bury those feelings because society puts out this facade of everyone being okay and living their best life so when you are not feeling your best, you feel out of place. The platform she created allows girls and women to question their limiting beliefs through accountability measures with its Self-Love Guide, Intention Setting Guide and other products that remind us all the importance of gratitude.

What are some ways to remind yourself daily to do something that helps keep you balanced and mentally healthy?

Some ways I remind myself to keep balance and prioritize my mental health includes setting my alarm at least 30 minutes earlier than needed every day. I carve out that time for myself to journal, meditate, read or just simply be. This way I can assure that I’m putting my mental health first as I believe self-care is not something you do when you can but should be a priority.

Why is self care usually the last thing most people whether working class or not think of?

I believe “grind culture” has made society believe that self-care is a luxury. The fear of failure has instilled in us that we should work all the time and after we can enjoy the fruits of our labor. Instead, we should be implementing self-care routines into our everyday life because it helps us all show up better in the world. Self-care shouldn’t be perceived as a luxury because there are affordable ways to pour back into yourself. Simply showing yourself compassion, holding yourself accountable or setting boundaries is radical self-care.

Tell us about some teachings or training you offer through your brand?

I created Everything She Is Co. because I realize that we shouldn’t approach  self-care as a one size fits all. We all have unique ways to pour back into ourselves. The goal for my brand is to be a resource and help young girls and women figure out how they can master their own happiness.

What upcoming projects will you be working on or involved in this year?

There’s so much to look forward to for the rest of 2021. We have some new products launching in Fall and we’ll be partnering with an organization to promote self-care amongst youth change-agents across the country in August.

What does self-care look like to you? List some signs of a person who takes care of themselves.

Self-care looks like a person that shows up for themselves in all facets of their life.

  • Someone who takes care of themselves sets boundaries with themselves and others
  • Recognizes their mistakes and holds themselves accountable
  • Is patient and speaks life over themselves
  • Shows themselves and others compassion
  • Give themselves permission to relax

Do you feel mental health in the black community will see changes in range of importance? It appears more people since the pandemic are trying to focus on their personal mental health.

We will definitely see a shift  in the Black community prioritizing self-care. The shift is already happening and I can see a continued deepening of the conversation around mental and holistic health. The pandemic has made us all realize how we’ve lost sight of what’s really important, our happiness. I’m excited that the Black community is putting their overall wellness first for the change especially after all we’ve endured

Would you say healing is a form of self care and in what ways can a person start the process of healing if in denial?

Healing is the goal of self-care. For someone in denial, virtual therapy is a great place to start. Not only do you receive advice from experts but you can also receive it in the comfort of your home. Therapy would help you gain self-awareness and gives you the opportunity to unpack feelings about the areas you’re unsatisfied with. Figuring out your  “why” through therapy which can be your purpose, your goals and foundation of happiness can help you heal.
