Nothing is more motivating than to witness those thrive succeeding under challenging circumstances, especially our black women. Serial entrepreneur, Lashay Anderson, developed most of her drive for success as a caretaker. As the nurturer of four younger siblings and as a young mother, she had to learn, grow, and mature faster than most her age. The responsibilities she developed from taking care of her siblings and her young blessing were only the beginning of the leadership and nurturing roles be of great value later in her life.
In 2017, Lashay was at a corporate job making $70,000 a year when she was unexpectedly and abruptly relieved.
Inferior to losing her job, she also had recently divorced her ex-husband and was left taking care of her two children on her own as a single parent. She went from having it all to having nothing. She fought to discover a means to ensure her bills were paid and her family had food on the table.
Instead of allowing this situation only to drag her and her family further into a hole of pessimism, Lashay took the road less traveled and turned this incident into an opportunity to become her own boss.
Your Best You, LLC is Lashay’s embellishing business that she started with her inner determination to persevere and not allow this overwhelming experience to overcome her.
Your Best You, LLC is a Philly-based career coaching business that offers resume writing, job search assistance, coaching, human resource consulting, and so much more. Her clientele ranges from those working in professional healthcare organizations looking to advance in their careers to helping students at local high schools prepare for their future strides in life. Her goal with this business is to provide joyous customer service and foster a climate where her clients feel closer to being their best selves!
When asked what motivated her to launch a successful business at such a crucial time, Lashay replied, “Being laid off from a high-paying job caused much turmoil in my life; however, it taught me many lessons. Although I made a decent living, I did not have much of a savings account and had to cash out a 401k to make ends meet for my children and me. I knew that at that moment, I never wanted to allow anyone or any company to dictate whether my children would have food on the table again”.
Being laid off can be such a devastating time in one’s life and an experience no one wishes to have. However, with the unexpected pandemic that is still affecting many lives today, work relief from closing businesses is a significant cause of the increasing unemployment rate. Needless to say, there are ways to persevere, just as this powerful black woman has. Lashay is a replica of becoming your best self and never giving up. She took skills that she learned while maturing to nurture and care for others and leadership skills in roles that she has maintained to create something bigger than herself.
Witnessing Lashay’s success and hearing her story is truly inspiring and yet another example of black women unleashing their power from within to climb to the top, where we should be. Lashay is a firm believer in constantly learning and always researching to become better than you were before. By perfecting your craft and the willingness to adapt to your surroundings, you are that much closer to your best you. Black women really are everything!
