Queen Sugar Season 5 Episode 6 Recap

Rest in Peace to the men and women of color, who lost their lives due to police abandonment, civilian racism, and brutality.

SAY THEIR NAMES!

Episode 6 began with the killing of an armed black man, George Floyd by a local police officer. It was said George Floyd tried to pay with a counterfeit twenty dollar bill at a neighborhood convenience store. From there the police was called, and things ended with the death of George Floyd.

We got to see the different reactions and feeling towards the death of the unarmed black men and how we sometimes cope differently from others. Hollywood understood the many who felt they needed a gun to protect the ones they love, while Micah reacted by using his voice to put together protest for the open public. His mother Charlie, chairman on the city cancel worried the protest may get dangerous and out of hand but another part of her understood the frustration of this generation and how voices needed to be heard. Surprised when Micah told her he helped plan the protest, but also proud to have raised a son who stood up for basic human rights.

Ralph Angel and Darla were enjoying their time on their honeymoon. We got to see a sensual side to Darla that we’ve never saw before on the show. Shorty after, Ralph got a call from Hollywood about the murder of George Floyd.  Ralph was devastated by the news and knew he’d have to have the talk with his son now sooner than later. The talk was almost unbearable.

Nova is having a hard time processing things but has to keep her cool. I mean, she’s now in a relationship with a ex white cop with his college daughter now staying with them during the quarantine.  She challenged him and her daughter with a few topics, some to get a better understanding of their understanding of the situation as well as for them to understand her own. With this Nova brought up a time he shared with her in front of his daughter. How when he was a rookie cop he watched as his fellow partner beat a young black male for no reason then let him go. This was a tactic so they’d be afraid of the cops as they grew older. His daughter was distraught by his truth. Nova said these questions and conversations where for pieces to put in her article but I believe Nova needed to him say it.

How did this week’s episode make you feel? What are some of your comments and concerned? Does Nova have the right to be mad or is maintaining her peace adding to her growth? Let us know what you think. Leave us a comment below.
