Whew, I was too excited to write about these two. Celebrity DJ Jay Claxton and his partner, Dr.CaSay (newly engaged), keep the positivity flowing and highlight healthy black love. I am absolutely here for it. Both are killing the game in the industry as well.
The couple was also featured on the Voyage ATL; the article highlighted the two’s extensive backgrounds.
“Casay Vaughn is an American Media and Business Strategist. Vaughn has produced both Television and Radio. She has worked with companies such as NBC, TV One, Radio One, BET, and SiriusXM, where she has left a major blueprint in the industry.”

The couple is just doing king and queen tings.
Not only are they making moves individually, but they are also continuing to build together. The couple reflected on how they balance it all, business, and their relationship. Vaughn states that their relationship started as a business partnership. “The love came later because that’s how we began. It was easy for me. Business is how we pay the bills, but the love I have for Jay is everlasting.” Claxton says Vaughn is Beside every great black man is his woman. He states that his fiancée is better at this aspect so far. “Regardless of what is happening, she is ALWAYS going to make sure the business continues to run. We are both in the entertainment industry, so we both understand the pressures that come with the job.”
The two are also very active within the black community. This election year was a little more stressful than usual. Education on the political system was much needed. Knowing what’s going on in your community is essential. The two started DJ Votes in November of 2019. The organization is invested in promoting and displaying the message of the importance of becoming politically involved. DJ’s Vote is not affiliated with any political party.
Again, giving his fiancée credit for being his muse behind the inspiration for this organization.
“The inspiration came from Dr. CaSay. She comes from a mighty political family whose footprints traveled in the Civil Rights movement. Her Dad, Pastor Dr. A.C.D. Vaughn and her Godfather Dr. Ralph Abernathy, Dr. King’s second in command, instilled in her political justice power. She began to educate me about the process, and I realized that it was so much I did not know. I decided that using my platform as a Radio Personality and DJ made sense. For us, it was about getting the message out.”
Dr. Sesay’s Godfather, Dr. Ralph Abernathy, founded the Foundation for Economic Enterprises Development, and he testified before the U.S. Congress in support of extending the Voting Rights Act in 1982.
The Voting Rights Act of 1965, signed into law by President Lyndon B. Johnson, aimed to overcome legal barriers at the state and local levels that prevented African Americans from exercising their right to vote as guaranteed under the 15th Amendment U.S. Constitution. The Voting Rights Act is considered one of the most far-reaching pieces of civil rights legislation in the U.S.
History.com, gives the effects of the passing of the Voting Rights Act. This included the increase in voter turnout. “Still, the Voting Rights Act gave African American voters the legal means to challenge voting restrictions and vastly improved voter turnout. In Mississippi alone, voter turnout among Black people increased from 6 percent in 1964 to 59 percent in 1969.”
Obviously, we still have more work to do the many injustices within the political system, but we got to start somewhere. These two are on the ground floor doing the work. This past election allowed them to explain electoral votes and the power of representation, both local and national. They explained the importance of reading the ballot thoroughly because there are laws on the ballot that dictate local neighborhood government. I am also all for researching the candidates on the issues that matter. Do not just go in voting and not fully understanding what your Vote is going towards.
I am a major advocate for self-care and mental health. During this pandemic, it is essential. We need to make sure we are taking care of ourselves first. As a black man and woman, I was curious about how these two prioritize this area of their lives.
Claxton lets us know that self-care is easy individually. Both have a strong belief in health and wellness. Every day he goes to the gym. That is his peace. He uses that as the avenue to release negative energy.
As a couple, they have really shaved their circle. We are big on energy, purpose, and alignment. If your energy is negative, you serve NO purpose for our alignment. Yass no bad energy in 2021. Can we all just agree? CaSay is his best friend. They speak their own language. She knows what he sometimes needs before he can see it. Also, we schedule date nights, and we intentionally invest in our relationship.
Dr. CaSay also emphasizes self-care and mental health. She releases by cooking and exercise. She makes sure that she takes care of her temple. As a couple, she let us know that it was easy because her soon to be “husbae” spoils her. She says, “With all that we have going on. We still travel, and we schedule time together. Plus, Jay is not just my man, he is my best friend, so we really have a great time together.”
The couple gave us some advice on how to help maintain a healthy relationship.
You have to be able to communicate but not just communicate. Be transparent. It is crucial to have hard conversations. If you can deal with the things you absolutely hate, then you will have a fruitful relationship. Invest in your relationship. Always deposit love and energy into your mate. Make sure that you are open to learn and experience life. Be their peace and focus on being the best version of you.
The couple’s upcoming project is launching a full-service travel agency, The Franchise Travel Agency. This October, they will be hosting their First Couples Retreat. In June, they are also launching Franchise Radio, an online platform with a mainstream feel.
Legacy is significant for this partnership. They make sure they leave a path for their children of justice, self-awareness, peace, and financial stability.
