Derra Howard: Her Experience with Epilepsy and the Organization That’s Making a Difference

Just like 3.4 million people living with epilepsy, Derra Howard, has made it her mission to spread the word of this neurological disorder and has started a conversation through her organization “Saving Grace Epilepsy”. She is an influencer with a life-changing purpose. She has worked with organizations such as Epilepsy of America, PJs Coffee, Hello Fresh, and many more.

In short, epilepsy is a neurological disorder with the brain going through abnormal activity and stress, consciousness, and awareness loss. Her medical journey started at the tender age of nine years old is when she went through her first epileptic seizure.

Her organization “Saving Grace Epilepsy” was birthed due to the untimely dismissal of her former occupation, which unfortunately due to her epilepsy. Derra didn’t let this stop her, and she created a community for herself and others who may be suffering with epilepsy. She started with blogging and networking with others in the same industry, which made a huge difference. It has been extremely beneficial for her, and she can share her journey and connect with others, especially me, someone who has epilepsy.

For the past three years, her brand has been growing, and in fact, she’s had brand promotions, and hosted events, even during the pandemic.

Achievements Thus Far

In 2019 and 2020, she gracefully attended her very first New York fashion week.

In 2019 she started her clothing line called “Line by Daye” it’s a mixture of the latest trends and looks, and of course, they come at a great price.

In 2020 she starred in her very first film.

This year she’s preparing for her podcast called “Beauty Rest Podcast”.

As a writer, Epilepsy Advocate, person living with it, and most importantly, being a woman of color, she’s coming a long way. One thing I can say is that her determination of being epileptic isn’t and won’t stop her grind. This Louisiana Born woman is making us all proud, and I’m happy to have met her and learn her story finally.

Yes, I’m very excited!
