Can we just Go Ahead and give Jhene Aiko her Flowers Already?

I am a huge Jhene Aiko fan. Like huge. I was so devastated when she was finally going on tour this past year and I missed getting tickets. Talk about mad but that concert was also cancelled due to Covid. I think that was a sign that I was meant to be there. I was listening to her latest album Chilombo which has been nominated for Album of the Year, Best R&B Performance and Urban Contemporary Album at the 63rd Grammy’s. The awards program just released a statement yesterday that they would postponing the award show until March. It was previously scheduled to occur on January 31st. Aiko is up for some major awards and they are well deserved nominations.

Chilombo, has included hit songs such as Triggered and None of your Concern. This is the artist’s third studio Album. Aiko’s music has always resonated with me at different stages of my life. Do we remember the realness that we could all feel with her hit, The Worst, off her debut EP Sail Out. Which was also a Grammy nominated for Best R&B song. She took it to the next level with her latest project by not only focusing on the music but healing. In interview with ET Online, the singer stated her music’s purpose is to heal. Aiko incorporated crystal bowls into each track of the album. In the same interview she states, “The more I study sound and its healing effects, the more I put intention of healing into my music.”

I honestly am a believer. I love the album as a whole but of course I have my favorite songs. Speak and Love just to name a few. If you need to meditate or need help relaxing, please, take a listen. The album has also inspired growth for me personally. Knowing that it came during a difficult time in her life with the public break up with rapper, Big Sean. You could definitely tell she put it all in the music. Aiko recorded the album in Hawaii.

Aiko stated in an interview with Entertainment Weekly, “Different people come up to me and they let me know what my music means to them, and what it helps them with,” she says. “And so with Chilombo, I just really took that into consideration.”

We are so grateful you did Jhene!

Also, in the EW interview, she reveals that the morning, she learned of her Grammy nomination she also had to deal with the death of her uncle. “It was a weird, out-of-body kind of moment, which is usually how I live my life.” the singer stated.

I am seriously rooting for Aiko to bring home the awards because she killed it this year. This album came just in time with the recent pandemic. Her music allows for people to still feel grounded in a world full of chaos.
