Black Love, Bold Vision: How Dr. Dawn and Stacey Wade Are Building West End Gin Beyond the Bottle

For Dr. Dawn and Stacey Wade, building a successful business has never been just about creating a product and putting it on a shelf. As a husband-and-wife team from Louisville, Kentucky, they are proving that entrepreneurship can be rooted in purpose, community, legacy, and Black love.

The founders of West End Gin, an award-winning premium spirits brand, are bringing a new kind of energy to Louisville’s celebrated bourbon culture. Inspired by the city’s historic Black West End neighborhood, the brand represents more than a premium pour. It represents a commitment to creating economic opportunity while giving back to the communities that inspired its name.

West End Gin operates under a simple but powerful mission: “Every Pour Means More.” Through the initiative, the company reinvests $1 from every bottle sold into underserved communities. Since launching in 2024, West End Gin has donated more than $30,000 through the program, turning every bottle into an opportunity to make a tangible difference.

That commitment is now expanding in a major way. The Wades are developing a new $6.7 million distillery and hospitality destination in Louisville, creating an opportunity for West End Gin to become not only a spirits brand, but also a physical destination connected to the culture and history of the community that inspired it.

The brand is already making its way beyond Kentucky, with West End Gin available in Atlanta, Savannah, Nashville, and Chicago, while shipping is available to more than 34 states. Its growth reflects a larger movement of Black entrepreneurs creating brands that can compete on a national level while remaining intentional about where their resources and influence flow.

For Dr. Dawn and Stacey, this isn’t their first experience building brands at a high level. Before launching West End Gin, the couple spent more than two decades helping some of the world’s most recognizable companies develop and strengthen their brands through NIMBUS, their nationally recognized, 100% Black-owned marketing agency.

Their client portfolio has included major names such as KFC, Toyota, Beam Suntory, Brown-Forman, MassMutual, Yum! Brands, and Papa Johns. That experience gave them a front-row seat to understanding what makes a brand memorable, what makes consumers connect with it, and what it takes to turn an idea into something with lasting cultural relevance.

Eventually, they decided to take that expertise and build an asset of their own.

West End Gin is the result of that decision.

What makes their story especially compelling is the intentionality behind the brand. The Wades aren’t simply entering the spirits industry. They are creating a business that reflects their values and demonstrates what can happen when experience, entrepreneurship, and community investment come together.

Their journey also speaks to the power of building alongside someone who shares your vision. As husband and wife, Dr. Dawn and Stacey are navigating the demands of entrepreneurship while creating something that can extend beyond their own careers and become part of a larger legacy.

During Black Business Month, stories like theirs offer an important reminder that Black entrepreneurship is not limited to survival or representation. Black-owned businesses can be innovative, scalable, nationally recognized, and deeply connected to community.

West End Gin embodies that possibility. Every bottle tells a story about Louisville. Every pour contributes to a larger mission. And every step forward demonstrates what can happen when Black entrepreneurs use the knowledge they’ve gained building brands for others to create something meaningful of their own.

For Dr. Dawn and Stacey Wade, the goal isn’t simply to build another successful business. It’s to build a brand with staying power, create an experience people can connect with, and ensure that their success pours back into the communities that helped shape their vision.

That is what it looks like when a business becomes bigger than the bottle.
