Beyond the Bio: How Crystal Williams is Turning Her POV into a Legacy

Some women build businesses. Others build movements. Crystal Williams has managed to do both. Known for transforming confidence through beauty, education, and entrepreneurship, Williams has spent years empowering women to show up boldly in every area of their lives. Now, the accomplished CEO is stepping into a new spotlight as a cast member on BET’s AfroTV POV, bringing her voice, wisdom, and unfiltered experiences to an even larger audience. Whether she’s leading a thriving brand, mentoring aspiring entrepreneurs, or navigating the realities of motherhood and success, Williams continues to prove that purpose and profitability can coexist. For FEMI Magazine, she opens up about the lessons that shaped her journey, the mindset required to sustain success, and why she’s just getting started.

FEMI: Crystal, every powerhouse has a defining moment—what was the turning point that pushed you from simply having a vision to fully stepping into your purpose as a businesswoman?

Crystal: I think the turning point for me was realizing that nobody was coming to build the life or business I wanted for me. I had to make the decision to fully bet on myself, even when things felt uncertain. There were a lot of risks, a lot of trial and error, and honestly a lot of moments where I was figuring things out as I went. But once I saw the impact my brand was having on people, especially women dealing with hair loss and confidence issues, I understood this was bigger than just selling products. That’s when I stopped treating it like a side dream and fully stepped into being a businesswoman and CEO.

FEMI: You’ve built your brand with intention and strategy—what are three non-negotiable business principles you live by that have helped you stay profitable and relevant?

Crystal: Consistency is number one. A lot of people quit too early, but I stayed visible and kept showing up even when things weren’t perfect. Second is authenticity. I built my brand by being honest, educating people, and actually connecting with my audience. People can tell when you genuinely care. Third is evolving. I never want to get too comfortable. The beauty industry changes constantly, social media changes constantly, and consumers change too. I’ve learned that staying relevant means being willing to adapt, learn new things, and step into new spaces without being afraid of growth.

FEMI: You’ve now stepped into the television space with BET’s AfroTV POV—what inspired you to join the show, and how does this platform align with your overall brand and business vision?

Crystal: For me, stepping into television was about expanding my voice and showing different layers of who I am outside of social media and business. I’ve spent years building brands, creating content, educating women, and growing companies from the ground up, so being part of a platform where real conversations and experiences can be shared felt aligned with where I’m headed.
I also think it’s important for people to see the reality behind entrepreneurship, the wins, the pressure, the sacrifices, and the evolution that comes with growth. It aligns with my overall vision because I’ve always wanted my brand to be bigger than products. I want it to inspire, educate, and open doors for other women who are trying to build something for themselves.

FEMI: Being part of POV puts your voice and perspective front and center—what conversations or narratives are you most excited to bring to the audience, and how do you hope it impacts your audience and career?

Crystal: I’m excited to bring real conversations to the audience, especially around life as an African American woman, entrepreneurship, motherhood, relationships, personal growth, and navigating success while carrying so many responsibilities. I think a lot of times people only see the polished side of business or social media, but there are so many deeper conversations that deserve to be had.

I’m also excited to speak from my own perspective and experiences, because I know there are women who will relate to the challenges, the pressure, the sacrifices, and even the moments of self-doubt that can come with building a business and balancing life.
I hope it creates conversations that people can genuinely connect to and see themselves in. I want people to feel inspired, understood, and motivated to keep pushing forward regardless of where they come from or what obstacles they’ve faced. Professionally, I think it also allows people to see more of who I am beyond business and gives me an opportunity to continue expanding my voice and platform in a meaningful way.

FEMI: For women looking to secure the bag and sustain it, what mindset shifts and practical steps would you recommend to move from hustle mode into CEO-level thinking?

Crystal: The biggest mindset shift is understanding that being busy does not always mean you’re building something sustainable. A lot of women stay stuck in survival mode because they’re doing everything themselves and operating emotionally instead of strategically.
CEO thinking requires structure, planning, delegation, and learning how to focus on the bigger picture instead of just daily tasks. I always tell women to stop waiting until everything is perfect to start. Start where you are, learn as you grow, and be willing to pivot when needed.
Also, invest in learning. Whether it’s marketing, branding, finances, or content creation, knowledge will save you a lot of unnecessary mistakes. And don’t be afraid to evolve. The version of you that starts the business will not be the same version leading it years later, and that’s a good thing.
