BLK FLIPS THE SCRIPT ON “MAMA’S BOY” WITH NEW CAMPAIGN AND CONTENT SERIES CELEBRATING THE BLACK MEN REDEFINING WHAT IT MEANS TO DATE WITH INTENTION

BLK reclaims the label with a multi-platform initiative featuring a mini-docuseries, IRL creator event and an in-app sticker to prove that a strong bond with Mom is modern dating’s ultimate green flag!

BLK, the number one dating app for the Black community, is taking one of dating’s oldest stereotypes and turning it into a badge of honor. Today, the dating app announced Mama’s Boy, a new campaign designed to challenge outdated myths and prove that emotionally mature, relationship-ready men aren’t an anomaly – they’re a direct reflection of the women who raised them.

In Black families, the bond between a mother and son is foundational. It’s often where men first learn how to listen, how to be accountable, and how to balance strength with vulnerability. Yet, in today’s dating culture, these men are frequently overlooked or reduced to stereotypes.

Mama’s Boy changes the narrative, spotlighting how the lessons passed down from Black mothers translate directly into how these men show up for their partners.

“We constantly hear the same complaint from Black single women – ‘Where are the good men?’ Our answer is that they’re right here. And if you want to understand why they love the way they do, look at who raised them,” said Amber Cooper, Head of Brand at BLK. “There’s a reason ‘mama’s boy’ has been used as a red flag for so long – and we’re flipping that entirely. The truth is, a man who has a deep, honest relationship with his mother is a man who knows how to love. He knows accountability. Black mothers have been raising amazing Black men for generations, and it’s time we gave them their flowers.”

The Mama’s Boy Mini- Docuseries: Moving past performative masculinity, BLK partnered with Atlanta based creators Romel Trusty,  Will IV and Jiron Griffon for a three-part mini-docuseries featuring candid conversations with the women who raised them. These intimate discussions go beyond just learning how to love, diving into the hard work of accountability, navigating heartbreak, and communicating through conflict. It is an honest look at the emotional foundation Black mothers build, proving a man’s ability to be a present, intentional partner is a direct result of the lessons taught at home.

The series will roll out across BLK’s and the creators’ social channels, with Episode 1 premiering on May 7.

Take a Look Here:

  • Episode 1: Blunt Truths & Best Friends (Romel & Kaj): Flipping the stereotype completely on its head, Kaj and Bobby showcase the undeniable value of being unapologetic best friends. Laughing through stories of a blended family and teenage rebellion, they reveal how Kaj’s fiercely blunt, no-nonsense approach to motherhood equipped Bobby with the exact communication skills and vulnerability needed to show up as a standout, supportive partner.

  • Episode 2: Growing Up Together (Jiron & Alicia): Alicia was just 19 when she had Jiron, forging a unique bond as they navigated life side-by-side. Together, they explore how Alicia’s relentless hustle, high expectations, and unwavering faith as a single mother laid the emotional foundation for her son, translating directly into his ability to be a present, emotionally mature, and relationship-ready partner today.

  • Silent Strength & Creativity (Will & Dyane): Spotlighting the power of art and emotional safety, Dyane reveals how she protected her son’s peace during a difficult divorce by fiercely nurturing his introverted, creative spirit. Together, they discuss how channeling his quiet nature into his craft taught him patience, proving that a man who processes his emotions through his passions becomes a deeply intentional and observant partner.

The IRL Experience: Mother’s Day Creator’s Brunch (May 9):

Just ahead of Mother’s Day, BLK is heading to Atlanta, a cultural epicenter for Black creativity and community, to host an exclusive Mother’s Day Brunch. Bringing together Black male creators and the women who raised them, the afternoon will feature an early screening of the docuseries and a live, honest panel exploring the values passed down through Black families. To deepen the experience, the event will also include intimate, hands-on moments, including a bouquet-making station and a custom BLK greeting card suite where sons can craft heartfelt, handwritten letters to their mothers.

The In-App Product Integration: Mama’s Boy Profile Sticker Extending the campaign directly to the user, BLK is introducing a new “Mama’s Boy” profile sticker. The feature transforms the stereotype into a digital badge of honor, giving users a way to wear their upbringing with pride and offering potential matches an immediate look at the kind of partner they’re swiping right on.

Mama’s Boy enters the cultural conversation not to lecture, but to offer proof. The campaign positions BLK as the platform where intentional, emotionally mature men are the standard, not the exception.

Mama’s Boy officially launches on May 7, 2026.
