The Queendom Beauty Box: A Black beauty subscription box with a bigger purpose

What is your favorite beauty subscription box? Maybe it’s Curlbox, filled with an assortment of products to get your natural curls poppin’. If you haven’t heard of The Queendom Beauty Box, then go ahead and put this on your “must buy” list. With so many great black beauty brands, it may be hard to figure out which one may be best for you. Or maybe you’re like me and just want to try everything! The Queendom Beauty Box has you covered. Created by co-founders Bridgette Jones and Valese Jones, it gives you a chance to try amazing products, and provides a platform for beauty brands to get exposure (and a little coin too!) For every Queendom Beauty box sold, a Queen in Need will receive a personal care pack.

Behind every successful black brand is a dope black woman, or in this case, two. Bridgette and Valese birthed The Queendom from another idea: A brick and mortar called The Queendom Beauty Bus. Unfortunately, without enough capital, this wasn’t a reality. These two though quickly on their feet and realized that they could still accomplish their mission by going digital. One of the biggest challenges facing black business is access to capital. In fact, despite the Equal Credit Opportunity Act of 1974 (ECOA), minorities still see unequal access to capital. Black–owned firm application rates for new funding are 10 percentage points higher than white–owned firms, but their approval rates are 19 percentage points lower. According to Valese “Everybody wants to mentor us to death, when what we need is money.” Quite frankly, she is right.

If those statistics seemed to deter you from launching that next great idea, don’t be afraid to put yourself out there. Have you ever seen a Nissan Cube? (If you haven’t look it up.) Do you see how unappealing that car is, yet millions of people bought one? Go ahead and launch that thing girl! Valese gave us some free game as a young black entrepreneur. Being able to listen to your target audience, remembering that you don’t know it all, being willing to pivot, learning how to delegate tasks, and knowing when to quit (because, sometimes things unfortunately don’t work out), are her keys to success.  (Valese works for herself in PR, so I would listen!)

I hope you’ve been paying attention, because The Queendom is defiantly a name that you’ll hear again, and don’t worry, the Queendom Beauty Bus is still in the works. They have also partnered with Recycle the Black Dollar which is a black business directory. The beauty box is in the soft launch stage now, but you can still preorder. It includes brands like Black Park Skincare, Made with Pure Love, The Scarlet Line, and Dominica Duvall Beauty and Esthetics. So, go ahead and order your box today!
