Skinergy Beauty

As featured in Glamour UK, Vogue UK, Vanity Fair, and Brides, Skinergy Beauty is a natural skincare line dedicated to skin issues related to hyperpigmentation. With a lack of high-quality skincare products for black and brown women and realizing her skincare needs were unique, Priscilla Jiminian created Skinergy Beauty to help correct her skin problems. After visiting her parents’ home country of the Dominican Republic, Priscilla discovered an abundance of natural, botanical, and organic ingredients that worked for her skin.

Designed to include all women of color, products in the Skinergy Beauty collection work with all skin types to address common skin issues. Dark spots, acne marks, hyperpigmentation, dullness, uneven skin tone, dehydrated, and sensitized skin. The product line is also cruelty-free made by laboratory chemists in the Dominican Republic and the United States. Priscilla wanted to achieve clear, radiant, and glowing skin without the aesthetics of make-up. And now, with her skincare collection, women of color can achieve the same natural results

Skinergy Beauty Founder, Priscilla Jiminian, shares with FEMI the ingredients found in her products, what a perfect skincare routine should look like, and the number one bad skincare habit black and brown women need to break.

What type of ingredients can be found in your skincare products and what are the benefits of these ingredients on the skin?

In most of the products, you’ll find a concentration of Reishi Mushroom, Geranium, and Licorice. These botanical ingredients specifically help by toning down the appearance of discoloration, dark spots, and acne marks. And they are perfect for correcting and brightening skin. Hyaluronic Acid is great for keeping skin hydrated and plump, Jojoba helps retain moisture, and Aloe soothes, and calms irritated and reactive skin. What we’ve found is that these ingredients work really well as a team without counteracting one another, and they’re gentle for sensitive skin as well.

Why do women of color get dark spots on their skin?

“Hyperpigmentation is a very common issue for skin of color. Because skin of color overproduces melanin, it is much more prone to developing dark spots and marks. The increase in melanin can lead to the darkening of pigment from sun exposure and even the use of acne medications. High melanin means we are twice as likely to have sensitive skin. Anti-aging ingredients such as naturally derived Kojic Acid, which is found in Skinergy Beauty’s Dark Spot Correcting Cream, can combat hyperpigmentation and melasma.”

What does a perfect skincare routine look like? What is one bad habit women of color need to stop doing to their skin?

It was a goal of mine to simplify the idea of a long skin care regimen. Ideally, we want to use about 3-5 products and go about our day. An ideal routine should consist of a cleanser (depending on skin type – it can be foaming, gel, or cream-based cleanser); a hydrating toner that is free of alcohol and not astringent; and a serum to deeply penetrate the epidermis and target dark spots and blemishes that may be beneath the surface.

As a last step, a light hydrating moisturizer and SPF in the morning. This routine will help deliver potent results. One not so ideal habit that can cause long-lasting marks and spots is picking at pimples. If you get the occasional pimple, whether it is hormonal or not, dab it with a BHA such as Salicylic Acid or Benzoyl Peroxide. Chemical exfoliants like these work best to get rid of acne and prevent reappearance.

What advice do you have for caring for skin in this new season?

For Fall and Winter, I elevate my skincare routine by not skipping the use of Skinergy Beauty Come Correct Serum (more drops don’t hurt!) and Skin Guardian Moisturizer. Using serums, moisturizers and even adding a night cream to your routine during colder months can be beneficial in keeping your skin hydrated and protected from the harsh winds and cold air.

What is your go-to or favorite product from your skincare line?

This is a tough one! Currently, I’m back to playing favorites with Skinergy Beauty’s Come Correct Serum. It delivers that radiant glow that I love to keep going – even when Summer is gone. I’m keen on having a healthy glow all year round. Plus, my skin can’t live without it.

What products help to keep our skin moisturized during the colder months?

During the colder months – a hydrating toner, a serum, and a moisturizer will most definitely do the job. We want to prep our skin with products that will not interrupt moisture retention, and layer skincare products that work to keep skin hydrated and moisturized – which is especially important if you have dry or combination skin. We also suggest maintaining a day and night routine for optimal results.

If you’re like me and have struggled with hyperpigmentation and maintaining an even skin tone. Skinergy Beauty is the solution you’ve been waiting for.
