We all knew since birth Blue Ivy was going to take over the world one way or another. From Blue Ivy’s freestyle, everything is everything to now narrating the author’s Matthew A. Cherry Hair Love. Hair Love is a book based on a father’s job to help his daughter find a unique hairstyle for school; Simultaneously, it gives readers different ways to style their daughter’s hair. There are also particular hidden messages about self-confidence and father-daughter relationships. AMAZING RIGHT, so who better than to narrate a book like that other than Blue Ivy, whose relationship with her father oozes nothing but love and confidence? It also fits for Blue Ivy to narrate Hair Love because of her self-confidence and love to wear her natural hair beautifully and unapologetic.
Creating these conversations of accepting black hair and the stereotype that black fathers are non-existent brings some light into the world. It continues discussions of other stereotypes that creep into fathers doing a great job and learning on trying to do better.
So, congratulations, author Matthew A. Cherry for bringing in another essential conversation to the black community, and thank you, Blue Ivy, for blessing everyone with a sweet voice.
If you have a physical copy of Hair Love, I highly suggest purchasing the audiobook as well. If you have neither, then get to it and add it to your child’s book collection of black authors.
