Queen of the Souf, Big Latto, sits down with multiple media outlets discussing her accomplishments and how important it is to support other women in the rap game. After releasing B*** from Da Souf in 2019 and Muwop in 2020, it was a no brainer that Mulatto would be a part of the XXL Freshman class. Also become nominated for this year’s 2020 BET Hip Hop Awards.
Tori from BET Press: We are celebrating 15 years of Hip Hop this year; you’re going to be gracing the stage do you have a favorite moment, favorite cypher from the past?
I remember watching the BET Awards and the BET hip hop awards every year, it was black and white, and it was Nicki Minaj with the bang yang, and she killed it.
Congrats on your performance and being nominated; if you were to win the BET Hip Hop Award, what would that mean to you?
It would mean everything, 2020, was a blessing in disguise with the pandemic and quarantine going on. However, I found goals in mind that I hit despite everything that was going on, adding to a list of accomplishments and moments.
Afterward, Mulatto stepped into the Shaderoom with Jade and mentioned that her most meaningful moment was when she received her plaque at her album release party. She is THE FIRST SOLO FEMALE RAPPER FROM ATLANTA TO BE CERTIFIED! Mulatto has been killing it since a child. The transition has been a stepping stone for many others to come.
Alanna Boston from HiphopSince1987: Talk about your transition between a child star to an adult female rapper
I am the blueprint; everything that I did was authentic; it can’t be strategic. Like if we do this then we can do that, when we turn that age then we can do this, it wasn’t like that. My creative team allowed me to have creative control and let me grow up as a woman, and it reflects in the music.
On the Beat with Angie B: You have been supportive in the community, and with black women rappers in the game, how important is that right now?
It is showing unity amongst each other. Following each other on social media, liking pictures, collaborating. We support each other, which makes blogs and fan bases look lame for putting us against each other when we are trying to unite.
Big Latto is doing major things in the industry right now and is currently building a multidisciplinary and attainable legacy for anybody willing to work hard.
T.I then expeditiously entered the virtual press, telling Amber from HipHop DX that he wants to be called Big Dog from his first grandbaby.
While T.I may have been joking about his nickname, but we do know that he was not kidding about his 56 bars list mentioning many artists on his Paper Trail Project. Artist such as Andre 3000, Jay Z, Lupe, Kanye, and UGK. Since then, no one has dropped off. Others had been added on, Lil baby, Joyner Lucas, Future, and other dope artists, lyrists, and creators.
We all know that T.I is not new to the BET Awards or the hip-hop culture; he has played a vital role in what hip-hop is today and what it means to be a business and family man.
Tori from BET Press: What does hip hop mean to you, and how do you embody it?
Hip-hop means culture; it gives all aspects of the lives of people who represent hip hop from top to bottom. It’s monolithic from how we talk, how we walk, the food we eat, and the beverages we drink. Everything we do, we do it in the name of hip hop; it has saved lives and created paths and opportunities for people; it has created a standard.
Shaylaraye N’Style Atlanta: You’re such a family man; how was it doing a record with your son?
It was both of my sons; Messiah produced the track, which is officially my favorite song. SO, FOR ALL THE OUTLETS THAT I NEVER HAD AN ANSWER FOR, now I can honestly say Family Connect is my favorite song that I have ever made, and Libra is my favorite Album.
Whether T.I wants to be called Big Dog, a family man, or businessman, it is evident that he takes his many roles seriously and always find ways to connect people when needed. T.I discusses with Meg from THISISRNB about his 11th Album, Libra. He discusses how he created an opportunity to bridge certain artists. T.I mentioned that he understands the importance of artists such as Method Man, Snoop Dog, the Wu-Tang Clan, and Busta Rhymes. T.I also appreciate artists such as Gunna, 21 Savage, and Lil Baby. Having an understanding of multiple generations of hip-hop is why T.I believed it was necessary to bridge that gap and bring the two generations together. “It was a perfect opportunity, and I am happy to hear that it is being received well as it is.
“We need to remember across generations that there is as much to learn as there is to teach.” Gloria Steinem. For sure the 2020 Hip Hop Awards have shown that this new generation of rappers are willing to learn. The icons and legends in the rap game are still willing to teach.
