Christopher King: A Legacy of Leadership, Education, and Empowerment in Pasco County

Christopher King, the grandson of blues legend B.B. King, has officially announced his candidacy for Pasco County School Board District 1. With a student-first, community-driven approach, King is stepping into the race with a bold agenda focused on expanding career and technical education, enhancing school safety, and strengthening support for teachers and staff.

King’s journey has been far from traditional. From growing up in a household that prioritized education, to attending an HBCU, serving as a U.S. Marine Corps veteran, and becoming an international humanitarian, his path has been shaped by discipline, resilience, and an unwavering commitment to service. Founding The Gentlemen’s Course, Inc., an organization focused on life skills, character development, and trauma-informed mentorship, brought him face-to-face with the systemic gaps many students face—particularly those in underserved communities.

“As someone who understands the transformative power of learning, I’m running for the Pasco County School Board to advocate for programs that not only educate but empower,” King shared. “When we nurture the whole student, we’re building the foundation for strong communities and a thriving future workforce.”

King envisions a school system where emotional intelligence, communication, and ethics are as prioritized as academics. Through programs like The Gentlemen’s Course, he has already seen the success of integrating etiquette training, job readiness, and mentorship into student development. As a board member, he aims to replicate and scale these initiatives district-wide—ensuring every student is prepared not just to graduate, but to lead.

In addition to his campaign, King recently hosted the 10th Annual Gentlemen’s Gala All White Affair on June 7, 2025, at the Fort Harrison Grand Auditorium. The gala honored recipients of the prestigious Presidential Volunteer Service Award, including influential figures such as Gary Hartfield, Kelvin Pruitt, and Anjali “Queen B” McGuire. But the evening was more than just a celebration—it was a community investment.

“The Gentlemen’s Gala is a call to action. It connects students with real-life examples of leadership and purpose,” King explained. “The funds raised directly support programs in Pasco schools—giving students access to mentorship, anti-trafficking education, and opportunities to build confidence through etiquette and life skills.”

While many recognize King’s name for his famous grandfather, his own legacy is rooted in purpose. “My grandfather, B.B. King, often said, ‘The beautiful thing about learning is nobody can take it away from you.’ That belief is what drives me. He was humble, passionate, and committed to uplifting others. I strive to lead the same way—with integrity, kindness, and a fierce dedication to service.”

When it comes to addressing current challenges in Pasco schools, King has specific strategies in mind. His first step will be to listen. He plans to host community forums to hear directly from educators, families, and students. He also intends to advocate for increased access to mental health resources and trauma-informed care across campuses, and work in partnership with local law enforcement to promote community-based safety initiatives rooted in trust and understanding.

“Educators are the backbone of our system, and they deserve recognition, mentorship, and real support,” King emphasized. “When we empower teachers, we empower entire classrooms.”

King is encouraging the community to stay connected with his campaign and The Gentlemen’s Course initiatives.
