In the vibrant world of comedy and empowerment, Tenisha stands out as a force to be reckoned with. Known for her unique ability to bring healing through laughter, she has made it her mission to create relatable, soul-soothing content that transcends boundaries. With her motto, “Laughter is medicine for the soul,” Tenisha not only entertains but uplifts, shining a spotlight on women in comedy and challenging societal norms. Through her growing platform, she collaborates with other talented women, creating spaces for them to showcase their artistry while pushing the narrative that women are the true architects of their own comedic stories.
FEMI Magazine (Mo Clark): Your brand is all about empowering others and leading by example. What was the defining moment that inspired you to step into this role as a leader and advocate for women’s empowerment?
TENISHA: Well first things first, my brand is more about healing through comedy. My motto has always been “Laughter is medicine for the soul.” So, I create content that is relatable to many demographics, in a way that makes them revisit that moment in time and laugh at it. Now the goal is to shine light on women in comedy while pushing the motto. I have always been an advocate for women. The defining moment that made me want to use my platform as a space that highlights women was seeing so many men on social media acting like women. Though I found a lot of the content to be funny, it started to feel stereotypical and redundant. So, I thought who can find the comedy in the different facets of women better than a woman. That’s when I started collaborating with other women in comedy and creating spaces where they can showcase their talents.
FEMI: With such a strong social media presence, how do you ensure that your content remains authentic and true to your personal brand, despite the fast-paced and often curated nature of the online world?
TENISHA: It is hard to stay authentic on social media, especially when you have gone full-time. Making money becomes more about the view count than the content. With TikTokdancing trends taking the world by storm it’s easy to feel like you should hop on the bandwagon just to get paid. But let’s keep it real, nobody wants to see my 40-year-old a$$ dancing to Glorilla! So just that reality helps me to stay true to my content and what my brand is all about.
FEMI: As someone who wears many hats—entrepreneur, influencer, and mentor—how do you balance your personal and professional life while continuing to grow and expand your brand?
TENISHA: Balance is hard to achieve sometimes. In all honesty, I must thank my family for their patience and support. I get overwhelmed with work and my commitment to my brand a lot. My husband is always there to remind me that breaks are necessary. My three amazing daughters help out around the house when they notice I’m burnt out. So, I would say having a supportive family creates a balance.
FEMI: In your experience, what has been the biggest lesson you’ve learned about building a successful business, and what advice would you give to aspiring entrepreneurs looking to follow a similar path?
TENISHA: In my experience building a successful brand is all about failing. I know that answer is throwing some people for a loop but follow me on this. Failure is not the end. Failure is part of the process; it is the gaining of wisdom and knowledge. Most people never start because of fear of failure. That is because they don’t understand it. When you fail you have learned a lesson, take that knowledge and reroute. And guess what? You are going to have many more failures but that just means you’re gaining more knowledge. So, understand that the only true failure in life is when you choose to never even try.
FEMI: Can you tell us about a project or collaboration that has been particularly meaningful to you, and why it stands out as a highlight in your career so far?
TENISHA: The highlight of my career is when I choose to collaborate with my family. I tell everyone my most successful posts have been with my husband, daughters, and sister. Whenever I feature my family God blesses it. The power behind my success is God blessing the family that supports one another.
TENISHA: Looking ahead, what are some goals or new ventures you’re excited about? How do you see your brand evolving in the next few years?
FEMI: My goal for the future is growth! Growth in who I am becoming. Growth in my career. Growth in my audience. Growth in my network. Growth in my message. Growth in everything I am called to do. I do have things I am working on with some heavy-hitting legends in this industry. But one thing I have learned is to keep things to myself until they are done and ready to be announced. So just keep an eye on me because this year is all about growth and it’s up from here!
