So, you know, FEMI Magazine had to join the Urban One Honors Virtual Press Conference to get more detail about this phenomenal event! First, we had Radio One Host of Majic 107.5 Ryan Cameron leading the press conference and the amazing women Jazz Smollett, Robyn Greene Arrington, Susan Henry, Erica Campbell, Kim Burse, and Cathy Hughes as well. While Cathy Hughes pointed out that this was the largest press conference that they have ever had, she also noted the importance for women needing to be recognized for their contribution that is being made. With that being said, the press came through with the questions, and they were answered with honesty and authenticity. Discussions involved talking about legacies that women have created, telling stories about women, the determination to succeed and lead, maintaining mental health, having Black women in different roles throughout the industry, having the courage to continue, and creating the change needed in Black communities.
Lastly, Uncensored executive producer Nikki Byles dropped a surprise on us with the announcement of finally securing the interview with DMX with it being his last interview, call it “Divine timing.” After about a year of saying no and TV One’s Uncensored not giving up, Earl “DMX” Simmons finally sat down with his mother and gave a raw and authentic interview of his personal testimony and paying homage to the hip-hop legend. While it may be hard to watch, it will be real, uncut, and in his own words, which you can catch one hour before Urban One Honors.
We must have all women and girls, men and boys, to catch this history being made. So, make sure you caught this event which aired on SUNDAY, May 16, 2021, and come back to FEMI Magazine to talk about what happened. See you soon!
