November 22, 2023| Atlanta, GA – After three years as a virtual event, Charge Up Campaign returned its signature Survivors Conference to an in-person soiree. The Garden Tea Party was held Sunday, November 19, 2023, at the Atlanta Marriott NE/Emory Area.

The afternoon featured a full breakfast buffet and mimosa wall, a silent auction, fireside chats, and panel discussions. As with all SurvivorsCon events, the focus is on providing a supportive outlet for caregivers and families to receive vital information for financial planning, mental health support, and resources to help lighten the load of the journey that they have not necessarily chosen to take.

As seen on a social media post from attendee Gimika Overton, “So many people focus on CANCER and treating the PATIENT, they forget about the PERSON as well as others impacted like CAREGIVERS and family members…10 years later and I still have my moments ..so I needed to hear the messages that came from the panel discussions.”

Some of those moments were received from the testimonies of Charge Up Ambassadors  Charlisa Herriot, The Crushing Chemo Chic®, and Tanya Martino; words of inspiration from Dr. Crystal Pugh; a fireside chat with Kecia J – who shared her journey with Colorectal Cancer.

This year’s panels, presented by The Table Talk Series, also provided different areas for guests to receive from. Topics included: Mental Health Through Diagnosis, Getting Back to Business, and Changing Your Mindset to Conquer Goals. Featured panelists included: Brand Strategist Isaac Hamm III, Erika Nicholson,  Vie Beauty owner Jasmine Lewis and Charge Up Campaign’s  Business Retell Connect Partners Dr. Erica Gamble of The Wig Dr and Derrica Webb of Xzood Sleepwear.

The afternoon was hosted by Media Personality Queen Aftan Willams and also featured a silent auction hosted by Tanya Martino, breast cancer survivor and founder of Loretta’s Daughter. A raffle also awarded prizes such as wine tastings, beauty services, and a holiday makeover. Charge Up Campaign also recognized supporters and caregivers: entertainment providers The DJ Team received the Pelican Award for their ongoing support of the Charge Up Campaign, and Eagle Awards were given to  LaVonne Conde – a survivor who is now a caregiver for her mother and keynote Kecia J for her community support and awareness efforts; and Caregiver Eagle Awards were presented to actress Reece Odum and Tracy Nicole.

Sponsors for the afternoon included SC Visionary Services, Peach City Customs, SJ Creations, Glow Atlanta Rental, Amee Events, La Fleur Chick, Sam’s Club, and Trader Joe’s.

Survivors Conference, also known as SurvivorsCon, is the first of its kind providing tools and resources for families and individuals impacted by cancer. Launched in 2018, the conference hosts various panels, keynotes, and interactive activities such as exercise, meditation, and nutritional planning. In 2023, the Charge Up Campaign updated its mission to increase mental health support and awareness for caregivers. With that focus, programs like SurvivorsCon allow the organization to continue to create collaborations and opportunities to support its growing community.

Charge Up Campaign is now preparing for its 6th Annual Pink Champagne Gala that will be held on Saturday, June 1, 2024, in Atlanta, Georgia. Like SurvivorsCon, its focus is to increase awareness of individuals, families, and support organizations that provide support to cancer survivors, warriors, and caregivers. The gala serves as the primary fundraiser with proceeds to support ongoing programs and initiatives, such as: Charge Up Cares, Transportation Support, and Mental Health Support. Tickets for the gala are now available at www.pinkchampagnegala24.eventbrite.com.
