Two Alabama HBCUs, Stillman College and Tuskegee University, reached the finals for the Honda Campus All-Star Challenge (HCASC), the premier academic competition for Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU). In an intense finals match for the HCASC National Championship, Stillman College defeated Tuskegee University, receiving the National Championship title and the grand prize of $75,000 from Honda.
The competition began with the top 32 HBCU teams competing in head-to-head academic quiz challenges, quickly answering questions about history, science, literature, religion, pop culture, and more. Stillman College defeated 64 teams to win the HCASC National Championship. Runner-up Tuskegee University was awarded a $30,000 grant, while the third and fourth place finishers – Winston-Salem State University and Oakwood University, respectively – each received a $20,000 grant.
This year’s winning team featured an incredible mother and daughter duo, Carla A. Louca and Susannah Britain LeMay, the first since the competition began in 1989. After 34 years of HCASC competition, the mother and daughter duo helped bring Stillman College’s first HCASC National Championship title home.
