I have the perfect person that I would like to introduce to you, Morgan Owens, who is a Beauty Blogger. Her website entitled, Professional Pretty has been up and running for three years now. Tell us about your beauty blog, Professional Pretty. What made you start it?
The professional pretty blog launched three years ago, time has flown. I started the blog because, for as long as I can remember I have been obsessed with all things beauty, travel, and lifestyle. I blame my mother. I grew up being the only girl and watching my mother in awe when she got dressed to attend a function or a meeting. She had a full walk-in closet with amazing shoes, dresses, and my personal favorite, handbags. My mother is beautiful without material things, but these just enhanced her style – I envied that. If you know my story you know I struggled with my self-esteem, I never thought that I would be as glamorous and gorgeous as my mother. I played in her shoes, jewelry, makeup, and perfume I couldn’t wait until I could have all these wonderful things. Now that I know my worth it’s not tied to my looks; I can appreciate building and fashions as “add-ons” to my beauty and not substitutions. My mission has been to help women and young girls find their sparkle, now I’m making one of my biggest goals come to life. Being able to write about all things beauty, fashion, And lifestyle to share my favorite tips and tricks. Just remember, you make the products glamorous not the other way around.
When did you realize you had the desire to become a skin and beauty expert?
I realized I wanted to help educate and bring awareness to Women of Color of all things beauty because we are often overlooked. We deserve products and awareness of products That help us shine from the inside out just like everyone else. I also believe it ties into Self-Care, Wellness, and Self-Love. Taking that time out of your day for yourself to do a skincare or makeup routine. As black women, we take care of everything else first, but ourselves. I wanted to help change the narrative.
In what ways do you feel the various weather temperatures affect our skin?
Colder weather makes our skin dry due to the outdoor air typically holding less water. It’s so important to make sure you use a great moisturizer to keep your face hydrated. Warmer weather can cause our skin to break out more because of sweating, excessive heat can also cause other skin issues. It is important to make sure you’re using sunscreen, exfoliating, and staying out of the sun as much as you can.
How did you begin your journey to specifically finding a niche in travel Beauty products? Please give us some insight about the travel guide as well.
I have always been a traveler. That over time led to me being able to “pack smart”. Soon my friends kept asking me what makeup products I take, and how my skin stays so flawless when traveling-I knew then and there I found my niche and sweet spot!
How do you further plan to distinguish yourself from other beauty experts and bloggers out there?
By simply being my authentic self. I have never lost an opportunity by being myself.
Do you have any brand partnerships or celebrity ambassadors currently?
I have been blessed to work for amazing brands like Palmers, Bliss, and so many more!
For the up-and-coming female entrepreneurs what is one bit of motivation you would give to them?
Do it scared.
What’s one of your favorite travel destinations and what do you take with you to keep your skin looking fresh for the weather conditions?
This is hard I have so many favorites! I love anywhere I can be in a swimsuit, so typically somewhere warm. I make sure I take: makeup wipes, a great cleanser, a great moisturizer with sunscreen, rosewater facial spray, bronzer, and an amazing highlighter for your face.
