Because this is our Black Love issue, we know that it’s important for you to love self first, and in order to do that, you must take care of one of the most important things which is your credit score. So many go into marriage and relationships with people who have poor credit histories and it can hold you back from getting the things you want or put a lot of financial stress on one person. So we sat down with a Credit Expert to ask some key questions to help you learn more about how to fix your credit problems!
What lead you into the business of Credit Repair?
Leading up to launching The Credit Store, also known as, The Credit Divas, I followed my mom’s footsteps in the real estate industry as an apartment manager of many apartment complex properties for 17 years. We had to do background checks, and pull and review credit reports. During that time I started to see the issues of non-approvals, and I found myself helping them with their credit. Due to many potential residents not being able to qualify due to their credit and also finding out that many simply were not educated in credit or their need for credit. It became an eye-opener for me and seeing that it was truly a need, especially in the black communities, I found myself encouraging people with great income and credit to buy homes instead of renting an apartment because they didn’t believe it was even possible. I soon realized in 2011 that it could be a business and I decided to open my office as a tax preparation service and offered credit repair. We have been serving the community ever since.
What are some common mistakes you feel individuals make when it comes to their credit?
As a company we find the common mistakes that many individuals make is not keeping track of their credit history and not being educated on how different aspects of life affect their credit such as late payments, missing payments, maxing out credit cards, and closing credit cards. Mainly all because of a lack of knowledge on ways to properly handle life challenges when they arise.
