At just 27 years old, Lyric Anderson has accomplished more in life than the average 40-year-old and holds multiple titles such as model, businesswoman, author, and actress. From a young age, she started modeling for various brands. She has represented several big brands, including Baby Phat, Mattel, and Payless Shoes, among other brands.
Lyric Anderson quickly made a name for herself on the short film circuit when she studied with Troy Rowland. Lyric has starred next to actor Richard T. Jones, appeared on The Troy Shawn Welcome Project, and secured the lead role in the film festival hit Sundays At Noon. And for brownie point, Anderson appeared in episodes on Basketball Wives with her mother, Tami Roman. So your girl is no stranger to the big screens.
We recently got a chance to catch up with Lyric Anderson to dive deeper into her background.
Tell us how you got your start in acting. Was it difficult to break into?
I actually started acting when I was very young. I had an agent and auditioned regularly. I was steadily progressing in the field and even tested for television. During the testing phase, the final selections have typically been narrowed down to about 2 or 3 actors. You audition for the executive producers and network decision-makers, who make their final selection. It’s an extremely important part of the process and viewed as a big accomplishment for an actor to make it to this round.
I ended up falling in love with the fashion industry as I approached my teenage years, and decided to focus on modeling. I signed with Ford Models and booked numerous campaigns and print work. To date, I’ve walked in both New York and Los Angeles Fashion Week. Now, I’m stepping away from modeling as a focus and returning to acting while also pursuing a law degree beginning in Fall 2022.
In what ways do you relate to your character, Tia, in Haus of Vicious? If any. If not, please elaborate on why.
I can’t say I relate to Tia. Without giving too much away before the season premiere, I can reveal that she comes across as disoriented and distracted, mainly because she has to keep up with everything she tells those around her. As the series unfolds, we realize that she comes from a very complicated past and has a plethora of secrets.
What’s your favorite part about playing Tia on(in) Haus of Vicious?
Since Tia and I are different, the role allows me to stretch beyond my own personality and embody an intricate character. I love that it’s somewhat of a challenge because she has such a layered personality and complex background.
What were your initial thoughts when you learned that you’ll be playing Tia in Haus of Vicious?
I was excited and nervous! There are so many amazing thespians on the cast, including the legendary Ms. Ella Joyce, Tiffany Black, Norman Nixon Jr., Brely Evans, Erica Peeples—and the list goes on. I was really happy to work with and be around such talented artists on set.
What’s your favorite behind-the-scenes memory from working with the Haus of Vicious cast on set?
I loved how the cast was so close-knit while filming. We’d sit around talking and laughing during lunch. Everyone was very fun and friendly, and there was an essence of positivity on set that was invigorating.
What’s a role that you’d like to do next?
I am open to auditioning and considering opportunities. I think that’s the fun part about acting—portraying a wide range of characters and not necessarily knowing what kind of role will come next.
