“I am my sisters’ keeper.”
“Each one, teach one.”
“The only time you should be looking down on a man [or woman], is when you are going to lift them up.”
How many of us have heard these clichés’ over and over again by people who don’t live them out? Right, me too. Well, today we had the pleasure of interviewing someone who actively lives out these principles. Precious Monet is an experienced and well established business woman who is an expert in the art of planning and execution (two things which I personally could use right about now.) Hailing from New York and Atlanta, she is the founder and CEO of Be Her Support, a dynamic, members only group of equally dynamic women lifting each other up. (Um, sign me up!) She sat down with us to talk about what led her to start this, adversities she’s faced along with way, and the exciting things she has up next.
Can you describe the premise behind Be Her Support? What led you to start this?
We stand in solidarity and aim to serve as a central place for women to connect and SUPPORT each other’s personal and professional journeys. Be HER Support is an organically built community that is structured to uplift, uphold, and demonstrate the lifestyle of true Women’s Empowerment. We aim to educate, empower, and enrich women as we propel them forward in pursuit of their dreams and goals.
What adversity did you face trying to start this endeavor?
The adversity I faced was not getting the support from the women that looked like me.
How has COVID impacted how you run your business, and what resources do you offer?
It impacted me by taking away the increased opportunities to host events. At this point, not everyone is comfortable with attending events although COVID guidelines are enforced. I have gravitated towards creating more virtual events.
Sometimes it can be difficult to see others shining so brightly while you’re waiting for your turn. How do you discourage competition and comparison between the members?
I make sure that I redirect the energy on supporting one another, that is our mission and value. Each member is unique, and has something different to offer. There is NO competition, We all CAN win. It’s all about changing the women’s mindset.
Some people may feel that you shouldn’t have to pay to have a support system. What would you say to those people?
It shouldn’t be looked upon as paying for support, but investing in yourself and your business. In order to build a solid foundation that provides resources such as business tools, workshops, giving and pouring back into our communities, contributing/donating & hosting events is where the members’ investments are focused on. Speaking of, we are excited to announce that our very first event is going to kick off Women’s History Month in March!
