From Survival to Service: The Transformational Journey of Stacy Hobson

There are stories of resilience, and then there are stories that redefine what resilience looks like in real time. Stacy Hobson’s journey sits firmly in the latter. Her life is not just a testimony of survival, it is a blueprint for purpose forged through adversity, faith, and an unshakable will to keep going.

A blood cancer survivor who battled chronic myeloid leukemia, Stacy later faced another life-altering diagnosis: Stage 5 kidney disease. For more than eight years, she lived with the most severe stage of kidney failure without undergoing dialysis or becoming critically ill. That alone speaks to a level of discipline, faith, and determination that cannot be easily explained. It must be witnessed through her story.

In August 2025, Stacy received a life-saving kidney transplant from an altruistic donor. That moment marked more than a medical milestone. It became a spiritual and emotional turning point that would shape the next chapter of her life. What could have remained a private victory instead became a public mission.

Rather than retreating into recovery, Stacy chose to document her journey through authorship, creating a narrative designed to educate, uplift, and guide others navigating similar paths. Her memoir, Yield, Heal & Thrive, is not simply a recount of medical events. It is a deeply layered reflection on faith, endurance, and the power of surrender. It offers readers a transparent look at the shock of diagnosis, the decision to refuse dialysis, the miracle of transplantation, and the long, complex road to healing.

The book is further strengthened by expert medical insight from Dr. Vasanthi Balaraman, a nephrologist and Medical Director of Living Donor Kidney Transplant at Methodist Institute. This integration of personal testimony and clinical expertise creates a resource that is both emotionally resonant and educationally grounded.

Stacy’s impact extends far beyond the pages of her book. As the founder of Yield, Heal & Thrive, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, she has created a support system for kidney donors and recipients that addresses both practical and emotional needs. The foundation provides hardship resources that assist with medication costs, travel, housing expenses, and other essential needs during recovery. It also offers care packages tailored for post-surgery life, including nutritional support and guidance from renal dieticians.

Understanding that healing is not only physical, the organization prioritizes spiritual and emotional support. Through mentorship programs, mental health workshops, prayer networks, and curated resources, Yield, Heal & Thrive meets individuals where they are, regardless of background. While rooted in Christian values, the organization serves people from all walks of life, reinforcing a mission centered on compassion and inclusivity.

Education is another cornerstone of the foundation’s work. Through workshops and seminars, the organization raises awareness about kidney disease prevention, treatment options, and the critical importance of organ donation. These efforts are especially vital when considering the disparities within affected communities. African Americans represent approximately 12 percent of the U.S. population, yet account for over 33 percent of kidney failure cases. Hispanic communities also face disproportionate impact, making up 23 percent of cases. Communities of color are three times more likely to progress to End Stage Renal Disease, underscoring the urgent need for awareness, advocacy, and accessible support.

In addition to her nonprofit work, Stacy has maintained a successful career in real estate since 2005 as the founder of J Hunter Realty. Serving clients across Tennessee and Mississippi, she provides education and guidance for buyers, sellers, and investors. This dual commitment to business and service reflects a woman who understands how to build both wealth and wellness within her community.

Stacy Hobson’s story is not defined by illness. It is defined by what she chose to do in response to it. She turned pain into purpose, setbacks into strategy, and survival into service. Through every chapter of her journey, one truth remains clear: healing is possible, hope is real, and faith can carry you through even the most uncertain moments.

Her life stands as a reminder that sometimes the greatest breakthroughs are born in the middle of life’s hardest battles.
