Stay on the Look Out for Rising Star Kissie Lee

Kissie Lee is a star on the rise!

R&B is making a major comeback and Kissie Lee is a singer/songwriter bringing the true sound of R&B back. Lee started singing at a young age and like most of the legendary signers we know such as Whitney Houston, Usher, John Legend and Aretha Franklin, she started out in the church. When her father became a preacher, it was only right.

Lee then went on to pursue higher education at an HBCU, Clark Atlanta University, to be exact. This was a chance for her to pursue her music and get it out on the radio. Lee ended up leaving the institution to pursue her dreams full time. Moving to Atlanta allowed her to meet some big names in the industry such as Jagged Edge and even led her to doing a session with the extremely talented, Keke Wyatt.  Wyatt is not the only artist that Lee has worked with. Lee has written songs for artist like Skylar Secker which landed her first billboard hit. She has even done placement with Jacob Lattimore, OMG Girlz, Tiny Harris, and Jacques.

Lee is ready to be front and center in the spotlight and share her voice with the world. We had a chance to ask the songstress some questions and get to know her more.

Nothing has been immune to the effect of the COVID 19 pandemic.

How has the pandemic affected your music?

It’s actually been a blessing in disguise because it’s given people time to look up new artists and I’ve been that R&B artist people have been getting in to!

2020 has not been kind to us. This year has thrown a pandemic at us, racial tensions and not to mention a less than normal election year. Trying to stay sane has been a top priority of most. Businesses have been effected and our daily lives. Have you been able to still be creative with all the craziness going on?

Yes, I pull from everything there’s been so many energies and emotions swirling around all I can do is think and write more.

You grew up in Denver with your family, when it was time to go to college you chose to go to Atlanta. We have so many talented artists that have come out of Atlanta and it also allowed you to meet some big names in the industry. Did the difference in culture have any effect or give you any inspiration with your music?

Yes I definitely know that Atlanta gave me the certain swag that is needed to make a song have that “seasoning” or “sauce” like we like to call it lol.

You have been known to bring Real R&B back. What is the inspiration that goes into your songs? Who are some of the artists that have inspired you throughout the years?

The inspiration comes from my life and things I been through plus just my love for real music real soul and R&B music. Artists I get inspiration from there’s so many but a few would be Babyface, Aaliyah, Mary J Blige, Isley brothers, Bruno Mars.

I know all of your songs have a special place in your heart. Is there a favorite and why?

Real has so far been my favorite just because the wag I wrote it to me is classic R&B and what I’m talking about I literally was in the situation when I wrote it so it’s close to me.

What has been some of the struggles you have faced on journey with the music industry. How have you worked to overcome those struggles?

Just getting the right team to help me get to a level has been a struggle. It really matters who you have on your side. Motivating you, making moves for you and it took me a couple bad situations to get to where I am now. I overcame it by just always remembering what I came here for because I love to sing and I love to write it’s my passion it kept me going.

You mentioned that you did struggle with insecurities due to being told you would not amount to much. How did you manage to stay positive and determined despite having those thoughts?

Well luckily I had a few super positive people in my life who wouldn’t let me believe what they said. I would just cut them out of my life and re program myself and only keep positive people around me.

You have worked with some big names in the industry such as Chris Brown and Keke Wyatt. Is there a dream artist that you would love to work with in the future?

Bruno Mars!

Lee is talented but also an inspiration to those to keep the faith when following your dreams. Be on the look out for Lee rising to the top of the charts.
