There are certain moments you don’t just attend, you feel them. That’s exactly what the ESSENCE Festival of Culture gave us last year. From the concert in the Superdome to the panel conversations, the festival wasn’t just an event; it was a living, breathing moment of Black culture, joy, and evolution.

So as anticipation builds for the 2026 return to New Orleans, this year already feels different.
And that shift begins with one name: Teyana Taylor.
Fresh off her celebrated appearance at ESSENCE Black Women in Hollywood, Taylor has been named the first-ever Chief Curator of the festival. This is an inaugural role that signals a bold new era for one of the world’s most influential gatherings of Black culture.
Known for her multidimensional artistry and storytelling, Taylor steps into this role alongside her creative collective, The Aunties, bringing a vision deeply rooted in Black expression, feminine power, and authenticity. Her influence will stretch across the festival’s most iconic stages and experiences, helping shape not just what we see, but how we feel.
And if you’ve ever witnessed Taylor’s work, you know she doesn’t do anything halfway.
This announcement also builds on an already electric lineup for the Evening Concert Series, featuring award-winning artists like Cardi B, Patti LaBelle, Kehlani, Latto, and the long-awaited pairing of Brandy & Monica.
But beyond the performances, ESSENCE has always been about something deeper. It’s where culture-makers, storytellers, and everyday Black women come together to celebrate not just who we are, but where we’re going.

For those of us who have experienced it firsthand, we already know: ESSENCE Fest isn’t something you just attend. It’s something you return to.
