Andrea Jenkins Builds Opportunity and Compassion Through Jazzy Pawz

For many entrepreneurs, the path to building a business begins with an idea. For Andrea Jenkins, the owner of Jazzy Pawz, it began with a lifelong love for animals and a desire to turn that passion into meaningful work. Today, Jenkins leads a boutique pet care brand known for its thoughtful, cage-free approach to grooming and wellness. She is also opening doors for the next generation of pet-care professionals through a newly launched apprenticeship program designed to train and empower future leaders in the industry.

Jenkins recently introduced a paid pet-care entrepreneur apprenticeship program through Jazzy Pawz, offering opportunities for high school students, college students, and adults seeking a career change. The 80-week program blends classroom instruction with hands-on training, covering dog grooming, wellness, safety, and the daily operations of a professional pet-care business. Participants learn directly under Jenkins’ guidance, gaining both practical experience and industry knowledge. The apprenticeship is registered through the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act and is listed on Georgia’s Eligible Training Provider List, giving students access to a recognized training pathway while earning income.

Jenkins’ connection to animals began early in life. Growing up in a household where pets were always present, caring for animals was simply part of her daily routine. Even though her mother had allergies, the family continued welcoming what Jenkins affectionately calls “furbabies” into their home. As a child, she dreamed of becoming a veterinarian and spent countless hours learning how to care for animals.

One memory still stands out. Jenkins entered a community pet show with her dog, Wueenie, whom the family had adopted from a local shelter. Without professional training, she spent time teaching the dog tricks and building trust through patience and consistency. Their hard work paid off when Wueenie won first place in the show. The experience strengthened Jenkins’ confidence and confirmed her natural ability to connect with animals.

“I’ve always been a nurturing person and always wanted to help any and every animal I could,” Jenkins recalls. Those early experiences planted the seed that would later grow into Jazzy Pawz.

Life, however, did not immediately lead her into the pet industry. After stepping away from college, Jenkins relocated from Walterboro, South Carolina to Atlanta, where she began working in hospitality. It was a significant change, and at the time she had only a small support network that included her sister and father. Still, she continued building her life and career in the city.

Everything shifted when her mother passed away. The loss forced Jenkins to reflect on her purpose and the direction she wanted her life to take.

She realized that life was too short to ignore the things she truly loved. Her mother had always encouraged her to pursue her passions and strive for excellence, and animals had always been central to her life. That realization became the motivation she needed to pursue a career working with pets.

What began as a personal calling eventually became a business rooted in compassion, dedication, and intention.

Starting Jazzy Pawz in a large city like Atlanta required courage and persistence. Coming from a small town meant Jenkins had to build relationships and credibility from the ground up. With limited connections at first, she focused on delivering exceptional service and creating an experience that pet parents and their dogs would remember.

Over time, word of mouth helped the business grow. Clients responded to the care, professionalism, and trust Jenkins brought to her work. Jazzy Pawz gradually developed into a luxury enrichment pet-care brand known for putting the emotional well-being of pets first.

Jenkins designed the Jazzy Pawz experience to feel different from traditional grooming environments. Instead of crowded spaces where dogs spend hours waiting in cages, her facility focuses on comfort and calm.

The salon operates as a cage-free environment where dogs receive private grooming sessions. Soft jazz and classical music play in the background, creating a soothing atmosphere. Aromatherapy and enrichment activities are incorporated into the experience to help reduce anxiety and keep dogs engaged.

The results have been rewarding for both pets and their owners. Dogs appear more relaxed during grooming sessions, and pet parents feel confident knowing their animals are cared for in a nurturing space designed with their comfort in mind.

While building the business, Jenkins also noticed a growing challenge within the pet-care industry. There is a significant shortage of skilled groomers and trained professionals. When she first wanted to learn grooming herself, she struggled to find someone willing to teach her. Much of her early knowledge came from watching instructional videos online before she was able to gain hands-on experience.

That experience stayed with her.

Recognizing how difficult it can be for newcomers to enter the field, Jenkins decided to create a structured pathway for others who share her passion for animals. The Jazzy Pawz apprenticeship program was developed to fill that gap by offering a comprehensive training model that blends education with real-world experience.

Through the program, apprentices learn every aspect of the profession, from grooming techniques and animal safety to client communication and business operations. The goal is to equip students with the skills needed to build long-term careers in the pet-care industry. Some graduates may pursue employment at established salons, while others may choose to launch their own businesses.

For Jenkins, the apprenticeship program represents more than professional training. It is a way to pass forward the knowledge she once had to find on her own and to strengthen the future of the industry she loves.

What began with a young girl teaching tricks to a rescue dog has grown into a thriving business and a platform for opportunity. Through Jazzy Pawz, Andrea Jenkins continues to nurture animals, empower aspiring professionals, and prove that compassion and entrepreneurship can work hand in hand to create lasting impact.
