Dr. Ashley Crittendon, D.C.: Challenging “The Wellness Myth” and Restoring the Body’s True Power

Dr. Ashley Crittendon, D.C., is on a mission to redefine what true wellness means. As a neurologically focused chiropractor and founder of Revive Life & Wellness Chiropractic, she challenges what she calls “The Wellness Myth” the belief that movement alone can fix the spinal and nervous system damage caused by modern life. Her approach dives deeper, emphasizing that real healing begins with the nervous system, the body’s master control center.

October is National Spinal Health Month, and Dr. Crittendon has been vocal about why movement alone isn’t enough to repair the damage caused by our modern lifestyles. “We’ve been taught that if you just move more, stretch, or exercise, your spine will take care of itself. But that’s only part of the story,” she explains. “Movement without alignment is like driving on a flat tire you’re still moving, but you’re wearing the system down faster. The spine protects the nervous system, which controls every muscle, organ, and function in your body. If spinal joints are misaligned or stuck from years of sitting, stress, or repetitive habits, movement alone can’t restore the proper brain-body communication that healing requires.”

Research supports her perspective. A study published in the Journal of Biomechanics found that poor movement patterns and posture contribute to spinal stress and dysfunction, further underscoring the need for more than just physical activity when it comes to spinal health.

Dr. Crittendon often emphasizes that true wellness begins with the nervous system. “Your spine is the communication highway between your brain and body. Every time your spine shifts or locks up, it distorts the messages your brain sends to your organs, muscles, and tissues,” she says. “That’s why a ‘bad back’ can also mean fatigue, brain fog, or digestive issues. Chiropractic care restores motion and alignment so the brain can accurately sense and regulate what’s happening in the body. When that connection is clear, every system functions better not just your posture.”

For many people, long hours at a desk are a daily reality, and a recent study revealed that more than 80% of office workers experience back pain as a result. Dr. Crittendon believes that small, consistent habits can make a big difference. “The phrase ‘sitting is the new smoking’ isn’t just a catchy line,” she explains. “Prolonged sitting slows circulation, weakens core stabilizers, and increases risk for everything from back pain to cardiovascular issues. The body was designed to move, not marinate in a chair all day.”

Her advice is simple yet powerful: set movement alarms every 30 to 45 minutes to stand, stretch, or take a one-minute walk; adjust your posture by keeping your ears aligned with your shoulders and hips; hydrate regularly to keep spinal discs flexible; and get adjusted consistently to maintain proper alignment before small issues become chronic. According to findings published in Mayo Clinic Proceedings and the American Journal of Public Health, reducing sedentary time can significantly improve both spinal and overall health outcomes.

Before becoming a chiropractor, Dr. Crittendon was a patient herself. “I lived with pain, sleeplessness, and frustration until chiropractic care helped me reconnect to my body and my peace of mind,” she recalls. “That experience made me realize that people aren’t just looking for pain relief they’re searching for renewal. Every patient I see is someone trying to get their life back. My job is to help their body remember how to heal itself and to guide them toward a lifestyle that keeps their power on for good.”

Through her practice, Revive Life & Wellness Chiropractic, Dr. Crittendon is transforming how communities in Marietta, Sandy Springs, and Atlanta view chiropractic care. “Revival isn’t a quick fix it’s the awakening of the body’s innate intelligence,” she says. “To revive means to bring back to life, to renew strength, energy, and awareness where there’s been fatigue or disconnection. It’s a renewal of vitality the life force that fuels every cell, organ, and function within you. When your body reconnects to its natural rhythm, healing isn’t just possible it becomes inevitable.”

“At Revive Life & Wellness Chiropractic, we don’t chase symptoms; we restore communication between the brain and body. True revival happens when your spine is aligned, your nervous system is clear, and your energy flows freely. That’s when strength returns, clarity sharpens, and purpose reignites.”
