Jennifer Sears is having her breakout moment. On June 9, Tyler Perry’s Divorced Sistas premiered on BET, with streaming available June 10 on BET+, and audiences quickly took notice of Sears’ captivating performance as “Bridgette.” Bold, witty, and emotionally layered, Bridgette is a woman navigating love and life after heartbreak with both sharp humor and vulnerable honesty.
Sears delivers a performance that is as raw as it is radiant, securing her place as one of the most talked-about new stars of the summer.
Already recognized for roles in Greenleaf, Bigger, Bad Dad Rehab: The Next Session, and the ALLBLK series Covenant, Sears has built a reputation for portraying complex women with depth and truth. But with Divorced Sistas, she steps firmly into the spotlight—anchoring a story about sisterhood, resilience, and starting over.
We sat down with Jennifer Sears to talk about her breakout role, the lessons she’s learned on and off the screen, and why setting boundaries has been one of the most important parts of her personal and professional growth.

Your character Bridgette is navigating life after divorce with a mix of boldness and vulnerability. How did portraying her challenge or deepen your own self-awareness as a woman and an actress?
Jennifer Sears: Unlike her counterparts, Bridgette isn’t married or divorced. Still, based on the marital challenges her friends face, she views marriage with a hint of justifiable cynicism. Yet she doesn’t give up on love altogether. Her patience with her immature boyfriend Vaughn shows she’s still a hopeful, long-suffering romantic. Whether that patience pays off is something audiences will have to watch unfold.
You’re having a major breakout moment with Divorced Sistas. What personal or professional habits have helped you stay grounded during this fast-paced rise?
Jennifer Sears: I remind myself that I’m more than my profession. That affirmation relieves imposter syndrome and helps me embrace rest in all forms, physical, emotional, and creative. It keeps me from spiraling when I feel pressure to always perform. My identity isn’t dependent on career status, and staying mindful of that protects my mental health.
Bridgette’s journey is one of healing and rediscovery. In what ways does her story mirror your own personal growth?
Jennifer Sears: Bridgette tries to be everything to everyone, her friends and her boyfriend included. I used to do the same, until it started affecting my health. Learning to set and reinforce boundaries has been essential. It’s an act of love for myself and for the people I want to keep in my life.

With Tyler Perry leading this project, what have you learned from working under his direction?
Jennifer Sears: Tyler is the ultimate professional. His preparation and work ethic inspire everyone on set to rise to the occasion. He pushes you to give your best, and his success is proof that excellence, hard work, and vision can change lives, including the countless people he employs and empowers.
What does self-care look like for you in the midst of success?
Jennifer Sears: I take rest seriously. Sometimes it means a trip for a change of scenery, sometimes just solitude with a book. The industry demands so much of you, and it’s important to protect your peace. Without quiet time, it’s too easy to lose yourself in the noise.
What advice would you give to women starting over, whether after a breakup, career shift, or life transition?
Jennifer Sears: My best advice comes from Proverbs 3:5-6: “Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will make your paths straight.” Beyond that, I’d say, choose yourself, bet on yourself, and love yourself. You’re worthy.

With Divorced Sistas now captivating audiences, Jennifer Sears has proven she’s more than ready for this moment. Her performance as Bridgette is not only entertaining but also reflective of the real-life complexities women face in love, friendship, and self-discovery. As she continues to rise, one thing is clear, Jennifer Sears isn’t just a breakout star of the summer, she’s an actress whose talent and truth will keep audiences watching for years to come.
