Mega Ran is back—and this time, he’s taking kids and parents on another imaginative adventure through sound with Buddy’s Magic Tree House, his second children’s album and perhaps his most heartfelt work to date. The rapper, former middle school teacher, and video game music maestro continues to rewrite the rules of children’s entertainment, blending fun, education, and community into a powerful musical journey where everyone is welcome.

Since bursting into the family music scene in 2023 with Buddy’s Magic Toy Box, Mega Ran has transformed from cult-favorite “nerdcore” rapper into a full-blown children’s music star. That shift wasn’t just artistic—it was deeply personal. In 2022, Ran and his wife became foster parents, a life-changing decision that opened his heart and mind to new experiences and new ways to use his voice. His first kids’ album debuted at #2 on the Billboard Kids Music charts, but more importantly, it launched a new chapter in his mission: helping children feel seen, heard, safe, and joyful.
Buddy’s Magic Tree House builds beautifully on that mission. Where the first album opened the toy box and encouraged play, the second invites others in to join, collaborate, and climb into a world where imagination reigns and safety is non-negotiable. Ran describes the concept simply: “If the first album was about enjoying your own space, this one’s about creating a space where everyone belongs. Everyone is safe in the Tree House.”
The album bursts with colorful, genre-blending tracks. “Have a Great Time” mixes pop and R&B flavors with a reminder that fun is essential to wellbeing. “Dino Stomp On The Playground” is a rollicking ska-fueled dinosaur invasion tale with playground energy turned up to 11.
The intro track “Good Morning” features Mega Ran’s own son, Buddy, now 3 years old, warmly inviting us into the Tree House—setting the tone for the inclusive ride ahead.
Ran brings some serious star power into the Tree House, too. “The Alphabet Song” gets a funky remix with rapper/producer Last BeNeVoLeNcE. “Water Plug,” a summer jam set on a hot city block, features 5-time Grammy nominee Justin Roberts and percussion by Daru Jones (of Jack White’s band). Mista Cookie Jar hops on “Get Your Wiggle On,” while “Inventors,” a tribute to science and creativity, enlists SaulPaul and Grammy-winning group The Alphabet Rockers. Each collaboration is a celebration of diversity, music, and magic.
But Ran also knows how to handle the tough stuff with care. “Why Do People Go” is a touching, age-appropriate reflection on grief and loss, featuring indie legend Kimya Dawson. The album closes with “Sing A Song,” a tender tribute to children’s music pioneer Ella Jenkins, who passed away last year at age 100. Featuring Uncle Jumbo and a chorus of children’s music artists, the track is a loving goodbye and a collective thank-you to the woman who inspired them all.
Mega Ran’s ability to navigate genres, themes, and audiences is unmatched. Whether performing at children’s museums or 21+ venues alongside bands like Wheatus and The Cybertronic Spree, Ran continues to merge his worlds seamlessly. Even with a discography filled with tracks about comic books, pro wrestling, and classic video games, he makes space for songs about affirmations, healthy eating, and empathy. It’s not a pivot—it’s a full circle moment.
Children of all ages (and the adults who love them) will find something to sing, move, and think about in Buddy’s Magic Tree House. It’s not just an album—it’s an invitation. To climb higher. To imagine deeper. And to be exactly who you are in a space that celebrates you for it.
